    Tranny sound?

I found an easy way to reproduce the sound that mine is having. If I have it running and put the transfer case in N with the tranny in D I get the noise. With the transfer in gear and the tranny in N I don't hear a thing. This is on an automatic. Ideas? I still have a warranty and the local...

    Tranny sound?

I have actually just noticed that same sound, so I know what you are talking about. I started hearing it after my driveshaft went out on a trip, causing tons of vibs. Since getting it rebuild, I've been hearing a ticking kind of sound from under the jeep. I thought it was the new shaft, but...

Here's my update: Replaced the second o2 sensor and everything seemed great. Filled it up and drove to Mt Whitney. At a half tank we had 210 miles (240 is my best ever, years ago) and in the end I went 300miles (including about 10 offroad) and still had about 1/3 a tank left. Before, with...

Stupid o2 sensor is jammed pretty well. I've rounded it off pretty well and have now bent my pipe wrench by using a cheater bar on it. It just won't break loose. I've been spraying wd-40 on and I let it heat up to normal temps but still can't break it loose. I'm stuck. marcus

    Help diagnose

Well, the check engine light finally came back on today and I happened to be close to an Autozone. The code was p0138, which says the voltage is too high for the second o2 sensor. That just means it's bad, right? I replaced the first sensor already, but it looks like the second one is the...

Leaving for parts store need quick answer...

What size torx (sp?) do I need for to take the oil filter adapter/housing off of my 99 to replace the o-rings? Thanks marcus

So I replaced my first o2 sensor and nothing changed. Should I replace the second? I had heard that the first is the one that makes the difference, but if the second is bad will it give me poor mileage? Any more ideas would be great. marcus

Thanks for the ideas Rob, I'll check into those. The coolant was replaced last year and still looks pretty healthy to me. I got another check engine light on the way home today, and this time it stayed on instead of flickering on and off like before, or disappearing when I shut the jeep down...

I put in a 180 because my temperature was staying over 210 most of the time, even when cruising on the fwy at 70 on a 55* night. Even with the 180* in it still hangs between 200-210* all the time, creaping over 210 when I slow down. I think I left some air in there when I changed it that I...

    Smoke going up hills???

I really doubt it is the rear main since it never drips a drop when it is sitting. The engine was replaced under warranty about 20,000 miles again, so it's a fresh factory 4.0 block. Only engine mod is a bored TB. marcus

    Scary Cruise Control

My 99 with 68,000 miles has always done somthing like this also. When I set the cruise, the pedal always dips for a second and it accelerates to about 3-4 mph faster than where I hit 'set'. I thought this was normal. marcus

    Smoke going up hills???

I've had a problem for a while that I would sometimes have smoke rolling out from under my jeep when going up longer climbs (anything classified as a "grade" here in SoCal). I assumed it was the tranny overheating, so I added a cooler and had it completely flushed. But the smoke keeps coming...

Well, I replaced the pre-cat sensor since I heard that is the one that makes the biggest difference. I heard the sensor after that cat just monitors but the pre-cat one will decide the air/fuel mix and things like that. I've gone through 2 tanks already and the best I've done so far is...

    Axle yoke question

My friend busted his u-joint and yoke on his rear dana 44 tonight. I have a spare d30 yoke that I know uses the same size u-joint, and I remember from setting my gears up that the pinion nut is the same size. Is there any possibility that they are the same? Is the spline count and diameter...

    Quick filter housing o-ring question

Do I have to drain my oil to change the o-ring in the filter housing or is the level below that and won't drown me if I take the filter off? thanks Marcus
