on the outerbanks and my xj is overheating

I am on vacation on ocracoke and I was out on the beach every day for the past two weeks. No overheating probs...that's a first! Yesterday it started overflowing from radiator cap and overheating, turning the heat on did not bring it down before the coolant started to spill. I let it cool off...

    replacing trailer light wiring harness

I replaced my trailer light wiring harness on my 99 xj and it has a mind of its own now! First, the wiring harness it had when I bought it looks factory, it did not work because one of the pins was broken. I cut it at the rubber gasket where it goes into the back of the rear pillar, and...

    driveshafts interchangable?

I have a 99 xj with a 8.25 rear axle that has an extremely pitted and beat up rear driveshaft. I have a driveshaft available to me from a 95 with a d35 that is in great shape. Are there any differences in the two driveshafts? Thanks, Buz

    rear brake hardlines?

I need to replace the hardlines on a 90 xj that run from the rear wheel cylinders to center axle. Can I get these pre-made from the dealer? It seems like most people here are just making their own, bending and flaring, I can't seem to find replacement lines from advance, autozone, etc...

rear brakes more work than expected

So my 90 4.0 project looked like it needed some new rear brakes so i did a small hardware kit overhaul and new pads. I still have no braking power in the back. On jack stands the wheels stop when the brakes are applied but are easily moved by hand. I figure new wheel cylinders will fix the...

    High idle and stalling issues

My 90 xj with 4.0 standard trans. 173,000 mi. has been a project for a year now, so it has not been driven in a long time. It has always started up right away and run very well. Now all of a sudden it will be idling fine and the rpms will raise to around 1500-1750 then it eventually stalls and...

    STALLING A LOT!

One of my employees drives a mid 90's xj 4.0(probably why he got hired, haha), but he is having troubles with it stalling on him a lot. He said he took it in to get checked out and they didn't fix the problem yet but it has something to do with it stalling when the defrost is on. I've never...

    brake caliper bolts

I replaced my front calipers today but I stripped the threading where the bottom bolt goes on the drivers side. Its holding in there, just not really tight. How do I fix this screw up, if I retap it I don't think the next size bolt would fit in the caliper. Any suggestions? Thanks, Buz

My 90 xj has recently started idling around 1250, and get this, if i apply brakes 4 or 5 times it will idle up to 1500 and stay there for a while. If i disconnect the battery and restart it will idle normally. The only thing it have done recently is remove and clean the throttle body. Any...

    hammer finish whole heep

I have two coats of rustoleum hammer paint on the heep right now, it turned out pretty cool. The problem is my roller nap is sticking in the paint. What type of roller do I need? Something for chemical applications, it has xylene or something like that in it? Planning on another coat so no...

    which heep do i sell?

So I have a big decision to make, one of the heeps has got to go! I have a 90 xj that I've put tons of hours into, a 95 xj with a busted water pump and belt, also needs new u joints and bearings on front axle, cracked manifold, both have three inch lifts. The local garage said they would give...

    front axle not centered??

I have a 90 xj with 3" lift coils and 1" spacers, it has a track bar relocation bracket but the axle is off center towards the right side of the vehicle. It is at least 1" inch off. Usually this is a problem on the left side, at least that's what I thought. If I take the bracket off will it...

    What's it worth (95 xj?)

So I'm thinking about selling one of my xjs, but not really sure what it's worth. It is a 95 country with 212,000mi. I have replaced quite a bit (most of the passenger side) of the floorpan with a ghetto fabbed, welded in sheetmetal patch (it is sealed well, and very sturdy, just not pro job)...

    another problem...barely turning over

Well for about a month my 95 xj country has not not really been cranking before turning over and starting. The volt gauge currently reads over 14 and now it barely starts at all! I replaced the starter with a remanufactured one about 6mos ago and the cables seem clean. Is this an alternator...

    grinding rear

95 country with 210,000 mi just started making a kind of rotating grinding noise from the right rear wheel area. Is this a wheel bearing starting to go bad? It only happens when making a turn. Any ideas, Buz.
