MJs are much better for towing! I pull full size Jeeps with mine (up to 6500lbs) on 33" tires on dry pavement. (need a trailer with brakes for wet roads!)
33/9.50/15 has got my 2wd places a LOT of 4x4s can't go! (there were 2 at the bottom of the cliff that couldn't make teh corner this past winter. I could've made it the rest of the way with my home made snow chains, but decided not to chance it)
Check the exhaust isn't hitting the driveshaft. There is a shield behind the pinion yoke that can get bent and make horrid noises but no real damage done!
The D35 in my 2wd '87 MJ has almost 300,000 miles on it (the BA 10/5 was rebuilt by a Peugeot tech at 110,000) and even running 33" tires...

I replaced the stupid valve in mine with a joiner and capped off the return line. With 6" of lift, it made me feel like I had zero brakes at the WORST times!
