Wow, dude- looks like it turned out well! I'm glad it went to someone who'd actually use the parts and replace the bad stuff (like rotors) instead of limping it along pretending it wasn't a falling-apart POS.
I'd say take care of it, but that's no way to treat a good 4x4.
Already going a different route, assuming this can sell in time. It runs well enough for a trail rig on and off road, but the engine is making some racket. I'm guessing valvetrain, but I haven't really worked with it enough to figure out what's the problem, other than it being at around 250,000...
Thanks. I trimmed the rear wheel openings this morning and removed the rear swaybar. It flexes a bit more evenly, now. Hoping to take it out briefly tomorrow to get an idea of what it can handle.
A couple poser shots behind the house... I didn't think it would flex this well with a stock suspension and the rear swaybar still attached, but I guess that's the benefit to not having a Samurai any more.
Going to trim the rear tomorrow and throw away the rear swaybar.
I've made some more progress. While letting it idle to check temps and fluids and whatnot the coolant bottle exploded. Instead of diving into the cost of upgrading the cooling system to the '92+ equipment I replaced the bottle with one from Quadratrac. It seems to cool just fine so I'd rather...
A local 4x4 shop makes a D30 steering system that's crazy strong. I haven't been in a Jeep long enough to have looked up the specs, but I've linked to the site where he mentions his steering. Contact information is at the bottom. His right hand man drives a bad ass XJ, too- what better reason...
The coolant bottle should be here Friday. Hopefully I can get it tuned up and figure out a front tow point this weekend and be ready for all the rides going on this month.
The pressurized coolant bottle exploded on my '88 XJ last week. I still haven't taken it offroad to know if it's worth the investment to convert to a newer radiator and I can't find the coolant bottle anywhere locally.
Does anyone have one laying around? Need a major hook-up here if possible-...
Do you have the bracket to hold down the battery? I have the battery tray and the post/bolts for each side, but I need the bracket that goes across the top. They cut them at the junk yard and the local 4x4 shop doesn't have any laying around.
Pump seems to be fine- I had it running several minutes the other day without a hitch. Next course of action is replacing the battery cables before I fire it up again- the main ground and hot cables are both corroded to heck, stripped, and laying on top of each other. Oops...
