    Finally figured out what the issue was. The new NSS was defective and was feeding voltage back to the ECM so the computer recognized there was a problem but did not have a code for that issue. Older OBDII was limited like that I guess. My tech said it’s getting very difficult to find quality...

    Lift Gate Latch Adjustment?

    My 98 rattles too. Tried replacing the rubber bumpers but it made no difference. I also just noticed that there is daylight showing along the bottom of the gate. And gate latches and opens just fine. What would cause this misalignment of the gate? How do you adjust the bumpers?

    Sorry rod bearings were also replaced. Almost complete overhaul except for piston rings and head gasket. Still dealing with this issue. I’ll ask my tech about possibility of flex plate kicking up crud into CPS. Thanks bud!

    Found this thread. My 98 XJ has done this two times in the last 3 months. Both times there was wind driven precipitation in the form of rain then snow today. I had to floor it to get it to start and continue to feather accelerator to get it to idle without dying. Both times it has done this...

    Jeep started this morning. Rear window defrost or washer/wiper wouldn’t work. Drove to store. Would not start when leaving store. Replaced fuse. Started right up. Is there somehow a connection between rear tailgate wiring and starter fuse? A common ground maybe?

    Think it’s starter solenoid. The relay I already swapped with fan relay and that didn’t work. Fuse I replaced worked. Jeep started right up. But could solenoid be out of whack on new starter? Only time fuse would blow would be on start up correct? If it blows again I’ll have to test the solenoid...

    I double checked fuse and now I see that it’s blown. This was replacement fuse for original that blew. So more than likely there’s a wiring issue somewhere. Wiring is not my strong suit so any suggestions as to where to check? Thanks guys! And can I get another fuse and drive it for the time...

    New starter worked great for 2 weeks. Strange it would just crap out that quickly. OReillys has lifetime warranty so I think I’ll have my local shop take a looksy to see if new starter is bad.

    We have a local shop here in town called Reds Auto Electric. They specialize in alternator and starter rebuilds. But they’re backed up for over a month. Most of the local mechanics use their service.

    Yeah I swapped the starter relay with the fan relay and still no go. Might it be NSS? I jiggled shift lever but that made no difference.
