    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

Did you flush it first, then replace the parts? Or did you wait until after replacing everything to flush it? I'd be worried about leaving junk in the engine if you did it the first way. But, then I'd be worried about getting junk into the new parts the second way. Is it just the radiator...

    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

Alright, so it is actually overheating. On my way home yesterday I saw it jump up to the first red line. So, I pulled over and measured it with the laser thermometer and it was at about 245°. It may indeed be that I need to replace the cooling system components, so I'll look into that.

    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

I'm not sure, they installed it at the shop. I can pull it off and take a look if necessary.

    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

It seems that the problem may have been air bubbles or something. The gauge hasn't been jumping anymore, and when I measured the temp with a laser thermometer it seemed normal. The temp gauge was reading just under 210°, and the thermometer was reading between 200°-210° depending on where on...

    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

Shop was closed when I picked it up, and is an hour and half away from my house. Otherwise I would have taken it right back. I'm going to get a laser thermometer from Harbor Freight tonight to see if it's actually overheating.

    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

Oh, so the same sensor is used for both the gauge and the PCM? The sensor is in the thermostat housing, correct?

    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

Ha, you'd think so, but when I stopped and checked it out, it didn't actually feel hotter than usual, which is why I was thinking it was the sensor. But yes, the radiator, pump, and upper radiator hose are still the original (or at least the ones that were there when I bought it). I flushed the...

    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

Thanks for the tips guys. o-gauge-steamer, the voltmeter was reading normally when this was happening. I do in fact have access to an OBDII scanner which connects to my laptop. There are two temp sensors right? One in the thermostat housing and one on the engine block? Which one feeds the...

    Overheating or Bad Temperature Sensor?

1998 Cherokee 4dr 4x4 Auto 4.0L w/ 160k miles Alright, so first a little background: On memorial day weekend I was out in the mountains camping, and it starting overheating. I believe what happened was that the thermostat stuck, pressure built up and ruptured the lower radiator hose, because...

    Fuel Evaporating?

Ha, I'll have to watch my fiancèe a little more carefully to make sure she's not going on any joy rides, lol. Yeah, I'm sure it's just that fuel gauges are simply inaccurate and fluctuate based on a lot of factors.

    O2 sensor replacment

If it's any consolation, I get about 15-16mpg with about 60/40 highway city driving. Same setup as you with the same mileage. That's after replacing my O2 sensor and exhaust manifold. Right now I'm trying the "cruise at 70mph with the tranny in 3 instead of D" advice. We'll see if it helps at all.

    Fuel Evaporating?

This is probably a really stupid question, but I couldn't find anything from searching. Is it possible for fuel from the gas tank to be evaporating? Like if the gas cap is bad or something? It seems like when I start up my '98 4.0L 4x4 Auto after it's been sitting overnight, the fuel gauge...

Adjusting back hatch on 2001 XJ... (with pics)

Thanks! I've been wondering if there was anything I could do about that!

    This is fun?

Ha, sounds like maybe it was cross threaded at some point? Mine really weren't difficult at all to get out (just changed the CKS last week). Mine also has a very little rust, so that might explain it. Doesn't help that it's in such an awkward position. I had a really difficult time getting any...

    This is fun?

Just use a dremel to cut a little notch in the head, then use a flat-head to turn it (after using tons of PB blaster of course). That should get it out. Then just replace the bolt with a new one. I've had to do that a couple of times recently. Those bolts really shouldn't be torqued too much...
