    ECU & Tachometer Mismatch

Oregon, which is quite far from you, if your info block is correct. Kansas?

    ECU & Tachometer Mismatch

Well, I just finished putting the dash back together. I took out and lightly sanded/cleaned every single screw and copper trace on the back of the gauge cluster. That did.... absolutely nothing. Unfortunately. I guess maybe I need to find a new tach at a junkyard or something...

    ECU & Tachometer Mismatch

Awesome! Thanks for the tidbit of knowledge. With its intermittent nature, I suspect it's something similar. I was hoping to avoid tearing the dash apart though, probably naively. Here's hoping I don't break anything!

    ECU & Tachometer Mismatch

Alright, so I've got another interesting data point. I got in and fired up the Jeep this morning to go to work. She runs great, as usual! The tach was correct in every regard though. I drove 10 minutes to the gas station and low and behold somewhere between a stop sign a couple miles from my...

    ECU & Tachometer Mismatch

Unfortunately I don't have another gauge to test. I was hoping to remedy the issue with this one. What a strange problem though... Sent from my SM-A505U1 using Tapatalk

A veepeak BLE+ bluetooth scanner with Torque Pro on Android. It sounds like it's idling right.... but how much does that really mean... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    ECU & Tachometer Mismatch

Here's a few data points I just took, with an interesting result.... Tach - Scanner 1250 770 2000 1700 2500 2630 3000 3600 So at some point, just shy of 2500 on the tach, it actually crosses over! How is that possible, what am I missing here....?

    ECU & Tachometer Mismatch

Alright y'all, I've been scratching my head over this one for a while now. I am the proud owner of a (mostly) stock 1996 XJ. I bought it with 164k miles just a couple months ago and so far have just done regular periodic maintenance and I just finished installing a 4" rocklink long arm lift...

    Clunky McClunkington's Clunky Jeep

This may be a dollar short and a day late, but I narrowed down some weird clunking noise to my exhausting hitting the trans crossmember. The exhaust hanger rubber mount on my jeep is worn enough to just barely let it touch. I would've expected a buzzing myself, but it manifests as a weird clunk...

    '96 NP231 Mystery

Well, I figured since it was leaking again after the new seal, I'd dive in and see what was up. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good picture, but the seal had a tear along it, circumferentially. When I pulled it out, the spring from the inner lip was off on the shaft. I think possibly the inner c...

    '96 NP231 Mystery

It is a broken c clip, and I can see the groove it sits in. I found some stuff online that said it was a retainer for the bearing ID. There's a big internal snap ring that locates the bearing race though, so I just left it out for now. There are plans in the near future for a SYE, so I figured...

    '96 NP231 Mystery

My last Jeep was 6 years ago, a '99 TJ, and man did I think that thing had electrical issues... I can't wait to see what I'm in for now. Haha. Any advice on rear output shaft end play? Sent from my SM-A505U1 using Tapatalk

    '96 NP231 Mystery

It sounds like you and I have the exact same model. As it turns out, a lot of the generic parts store listings have the wrong seal. They show the seal for the older version, where the slip yoke does enter the sealed volume. I ended up finding the correct seal (which as it turns out, is also...

    '96 NP231 Mystery

Fantastic! I am new to this forum as a poster, but have been reading for quite some time now, and I continue to be impressed with the level of help people are willing to provide. Thank you. I checked out rock auto and napa, and it looks like that seal is the same seal they used on the NP242 in...

I should've also added in this last message that the t-case has a manufacture date of 11/95, so it shouldn't be the newer style I don't believe.... I have seen some literature, such as Iron Rock Offroad's website, that says the '96 and newer has the sealed style tail shaft extension.
