My '89 non-ABS had soft pedal until I replaced everything and then got a good bleed on the system.
It's common to find the parts (drums/rotors) have been machined at least once during the life of vehicle and that eventually adds up to loose overall tolerances.
Or, in my case the...
Hey blk88 - I understand times are tough. That's why you shouldn't waste a dime on "hope in a can" or anything else except maybe a basic catch-can along with an oil hog to keep things under control and soaked up until you can repair the obviously worn metal inside the engine.
Think about it...
You put a new engine in the past week and still have this issue?
What you describe is classic worn engine. If the CCV tubing is clean and everything is tight enough to maintain a slight vacuum (dipstick sealed, oil cap tight, etc.) - and it still does this on the highway, your engine is worn...
Like Mike said - it would seem clogged. If it were me, I would measure the temps and compare to pressures but either way it sounds like it will need to be opened.
This thread seems to go dead in winter and usually drifts back up in spring/summer. In my earliest posts - I suggested to read/study and/or get some training about AC systems. It's really the best way to "know" - we're just talking/boasting here and not trying to make everybody into an AC...
Thanks! I'm getting in deep and perhaps setting my budget a little low? 'wife's GPS will have to wait!
Golan (actually Golen get's more accurate search hits) - a good one! Will give it more look. Jasper certainly seems a quality outfit - 'might have to rethink keeping the old radiator due...
Ditto the IAC port/orifice. But, when was the last time it got a tune-up and O2 sensor? At least the codes will help you a lot more than us Renix drivers!
300k miles - heads never been off. Main issue is oil leaks but the metal has some wear too. I'd love to do a blueprint/stroker but that's not on the table. By the time/$$$ I do an in-frame with minimum rings, timing gear/chain, machine shop head and seals it's getting close to cost of rebuilt...
Planning and budgeting to do an engine swap with rebuild in my '89 XJ limited with auto transmission.
In addition to the engine which I haven't fully decided on yet, here's what I think should be replaced when the rebuilt engine goes in:
Water pump
Engine ground cable(s)
Exhaust manifold -...
I seem to remember if horizontal bolt turned around on the passenger side, didn't need to mess with the oil filter location anymore?
Wow - I like that Brown Dog price and replaceable bushings!
DMM might be = digital multi meter. Also DVM - digital volt meter. Electronics tool - basically volt/ohm meter of some style or another. Cost range $15-$150.
What value thermostat did you use? If 160 - then it's probably working fine. But 190 or so is what the engine was designed for and hoses should feel pretty hot after a good drive. Maybe you got a defective thermostat? Those CFS 3 rows cool well so a good thermostat will be even that much...
