I would Definately recommend a smitybuilt winch now

I've got one and it's seen plenty if use, mostly to help out others around here in the winter. It's never failed me yet and does a good job. For an inexpensive winch I'm quite pleased with it. I'm one of only two people that I know of that live inside of the park that has a winch on their...

Add a leaf without removing entire leaf spring pack?

Anyone done this? Looking at it, I'm thinking I can just drop the axle and disassemble/assemble the leaf pack while leaving the main leaf bolted in without the potential aggravation of trying to take the whole thing out. Am I overlooking something that may complicate doing it this way versus...

    OR-FAB

It's a stout bumper and I've banged mine up quite a bit. It comes with a bracing plate and new bolts for the steering box. I installed it by myself and almost needed three hands for that part but otherwise was a fairly easy install. Depending on the size of winch, it can be a little snug and I...

    Frozen?

At least yours will crank. As weird as this may sound, I think my neutral safety switch freezes. Sit outside all night=no crank/no start unless I moved the shifter from Park to Neutral. Inside the warm garage all night=starts right up every time.

    Swaybar nutserts?

That's what happened to mine. They are easy to get to....once the front bumper is off. The don't sit too far back in the frame tube. I eliminated all of mine and dropped a grade 8 bolt down from inside and tack welded it in place. Bushings are easy to replace with that setup, just a matter...

    Calling all winch guru's

You're probalby right about the sticker being on the wrong side, the cable comes off the bottom of the drum. It is just one of those "what the?" dumb things. I just look at a friends Milemarker, it comes off the bottom as well.

    Calling all winch guru's

Yes the controller has "in" and "out" and it's function rolls the cable opposite what the directional decal says. "In" rotates against the direction the arrow indicates the cable should be spooled. Line speed should tell me the cable is winding correctly despite what the decal says if someone...

    Calling all winch guru's

I installed a Smittybilt XRC8 winch yesterday, it seems decent enough for what I would need a winch for and was more in line with my budget. It was somewhat of a tight fit on my OR-Fab bumper and I had to modify the control box mount. One thing that seemed odd to me, there is an arrow shaped...

    The trunk tool kit

Dang man.....You need a winch just to get that thing out of the driveway.

    Smittybilt XRC8 Winch

The 4wheeldrivehardware store near me advertised them at 299 for a big sale they were having this past weekend so off I went. I get there and was told they couldn't get them and had no idea when they would actually hit the stores. :sure: I went home and looked at their website, called customer...

    Decisions, decisions......new winch bumper

I've pretty much narrowed it down to 2 that I like, both available through Quadratec as well as other major retailers. The first is the Four Real prerunner style, the second is the OR-Fab rock slider bumper. I'm leaning toward the OR-Fab, plus it comes standard with D-rings and light tabs. Just...

    Bye Bye Helicopter

Reminds me of a friends first RC plane. He lost it over a treeline about 300 yards away from us. Thinking it was gone for good, he turned off the radio, and we sat down on the tailgate of his truck to mourn the loss of his $400 toy :tears: We sat there for a couple of minutes and suddenly we...

    2-door vs. 4-door

4 doors are cheaper to insure than 2 doors. That's the first thing my agent asked me about mine, it's a 4 door. My agents exact words...."4 doors are classed more like a family type vehicle, typically driven by the older crowd and used more as grocery getters. 2 doors seem to attract the...

    Hmmm....How do they look?

 Just trying to get others perspective on it. Still not totally sure about them and I'm getting some insight into the pros and cons of why some folks wouldn't put them there.
