Looks like its the pump, from that test.
I'm going to pull the cooler lines at the trans to see if there is any fluid movement at all, since that would rule out a clogged cooler, but I doubt it as its the size of a radiator. I'm also going to pull the pan and make sure there isnt a reason that...
AW4 was rebuilt about 16 months ago. Only has about 5000 miles on it. Was driving without issue on highway when suddenly started slipping in and out of neutral. After about 10 seconds it was only neutral. If I revved it up it would move about an inch and then neutral again. No forward or...
Thanks. I’m happy I’m not sounding crazy here because I was thinking the same thing! Some additional things I’ve noticed/didn’t mention:
1) i believe the issue began after I changed all three solenoids, changes the filter and fluid (obviously) and repaired open wires cut from the 4wd linkage...
Have a 1998 XJ with AW4. All forward gears work without any issue. When i shift into reverse after sitting for about 1+ hours, there is a VERY slight creep backwards. If i rev the engine, it acts like its in neutral. After revving for about 10 seconds, it will drop into reverse. After that...
Well I'm trying to find clarification on what components actually control the first/reverse brake. The manual shows it, but doesn't mention what solenoids, accumulators, etc are involved.
It did have a filter and fluid change when i first got it. I will test revving and going into reverse tomorrow. I believe it takes same time to engage regardless of RPMs.
I've been looking all over for some help with this. I read through the AW4 manual, but it leaves out much mention of the first/reverse brake which is where I suspect my problem is. Anytime I shift into reverse, there is about a 3 second delay until reverse engages. Once its engaged it is...
