    WI-Jeeper's 2001 build thread

Well it's been an interesting couple of years. I still have my XJ but due to EVAP system issues not allowing me to pass emissions, then a parasitic battery drain issue, and then buying/trading a bunch of other vehicles that took over my time the Jeep got put on the back burner. For now it sits...

    Liberty conversion backing plate studs?

No worries! I'm sure I could find something, but the best two options at the moment (Currie t-bolts or grade 8's from hardware store) are the most cost-effective and least time consuming thus far. Still scouring the interwebs for other fastener solutions from vendors like Fastenal, ARP...

    Liberty conversion backing plate studs?

Thanks for the link, that's perfect! May go that route if I don't have time to grind down some bolts myself. Got a part number for these? Lug studs are about that price, but I'm looking for brake backing plate studs which are completely different in size.

    Liberty conversion backing plate studs?

Wow I think you win. My feeble brain was assuming I had to get new studs because I pulled them from the donor vehicle, not thinking my XJ would already have them from the existing drums. Thanks, I'm (probably) an idiot! Yes, the stud heads are cut off on one side to clear the axle tube. If...

    Liberty conversion backing plate studs?

Yep that is one of the reasons I wanted the factory knurled bolt. However at a cost of $8 and up for each one, I'm going to opt for hardware store grade 8 fasteners instead. For that price I can hold a wrench for 5 minutes :)

    Liberty conversion backing plate studs?

D'oh my bad, its late, weather is hot, milk was a bad choice. 2003 KJ with 8.25 corporate is exactly what I needed, thank you! Edit: After looking at the prices for OE studs/nuts, I think grade 8 hardware will work just fine...

    Liberty conversion backing plate studs?

After searching all the existing Liberty disc conversion threads (or what feels like searching them all), I can't find info on where to get replacement backing plate studs / part numbers. I already pulled the hardware from the junkyard but the old studs were completely rusted out. Anyone have...

Still tackling basic repairs. Existing muffler was rusted out and loud. Cut the OEM tailpipe from the muffler using a reciprocating saw. Cut one of the muffler studs with the saw, the other one had to get creative with a cut-off wheel on an angle grinder (NOTE: If you try this, be careful not...

Walker 55188 tail pipe issue on my '01

UPDATE: I'm an idiot and the exhaust is now installed. Fitment is perfect. Thanks to user RCP Phx for pointing out my picture looked off, it was the key to my foolishness. Was doing this in the evening during a thunderstorm while it was hotter than balls and apparently my brain didn't work...

Walker 55188 tail pipe issue on my '01

No its the original exhaust cut out and laying on my garage floor next to the replacement parts. Maybe this shot below is a better photo angle? Bend is off 10-20 degrees right/left by my estimation and also slightly too high. Edit: OK I see what you are asking - photo makes it look like...

Walker 55188 tail pipe issue on my '01

Recently purchased a Walker 55188 tailpipe and Walker 18959 muffler from RockAuto listed as a direct OEM fit. Cut out my old rusted system from cat back which strongly appears to be original, and mock fit the new setup. It seems the Walker pipe is bent incorrectly (badly) at the muffler side...

    WI-Jeeper's 2001 build thread

[Originally from 07-08-17 but I'm slow] Went to the junkyard and pulled parts for cruise control and installed in my XJ in about 1 hour. Pretty simple and probably the best $25 I ever spent! (Credit to this thread for helpful info)

Thank you! Yeah it was a nice surprise to find the Monroney sticker folded up in the glovebox. Congrats to you on pulling a 60th anniversary model, thats neat!

[07-16-2017] Audio system is in sad shape - bad speakers in the rear, broken wires for the fronts, and aftermarket radio was connected using the twist/tape/pray method. Soldered up the radio harness, swapped in Sony XS-R1645 6.5" speakers (Walmart special but they do the job), and spliced in...

    WI-Jeeper's 2001 build thread

[07-01-2017] Removed most of the door trim for a cleaner look, cleaning off the adhesive backing is a nightmare! A few weeks ago I was able to pick up a set of super clean Ravines and nearly new 235/75/15s off Craigslist (thanks Mandy). Finally got them mounted up, huge improvement for the...
