    What "modern" engine to use?

That is true in a CJ-5. But an XJ has a CONSIDERABLY longer wheelbase (well over a foot longer), and the rear shaft would not be a problem.

87 grand cherokee d44 on 88 cherokee xj

Sounds like waggy axles to me...not grand cherokee...

    2 link front end?

No. The only way it would eliminate side to side motion is to have the joint at the frame SOOOO beefy and rigid, that they would completely resist twisting, only pivot straight up and down, and therefore KILL your articulation. Because the frame joint must allow the arm to twist for...

    D30 with 36's

Super30 will put up with 35's no problem. I run Q78's which are a little over 35" with a Locker, 27spline Superior Alloy's and CTM's and I bash that thing like a rental and haven't broken anything yet. Then again i'm $1200.00 just into the shafts and CTM's. If i didn't already have the 27...

The best rocker protection I could come up with...

Just get the ones from Detoursusa.com and you won't have to worry about them pushing in. Not to mention its probably cheaper than the combined cost of the three kits you listed.

    Dana 44 Question

No puller. Take the brakes apart, undo the four bolts that hold the brake backing plate on. These also hold the shaft retainer. Once removed, the shaft will slide out. You might have to give it a yank, but it will slide out.

    I'm wondering the same thing?

TJ Rubicon axles in an XJ

    1) Bolt in the front (links, steering, brakes, etc). 2) Get TomWoods to make the front driveshaft. 3) Torch all the TJ brackets off the rear axle. Buy spring perches ($50.00), set it under the springs with the perches loose and the ubolts just tight enough to hold it all together. Get it...

    37" tires

I would agree with this. Considering his sig shows hes down in Luisiana, off camber slick rock might not be on the radar.

    Super 44

You make a very good point. But. Same goes for some custom built rear from any one of the big guns. Currie, Dynatrack, etc. The Super 44 kit is a good financial alternative for someone who was considering a custom narrowed 60 or custom built assembly. Also, if you take a look at what some of...

    '87 XJ Dana44

Somewhere around $500. But that depends on how easy the sale is, and what you've got to trade. I love barters!
