My Jeep's Been Running Great and It Bothers Me...

Have you ever gone digging to try and find a problem and somewhere along the way the problem 'goes away', and you have no clue what the problem was? My '88 had an intermittent stalling problem, which eventually got to the point of being a no-start condition. I fiddled with it for several weeks...

    Electric fan problems

Unless you see evidence that the wiring has been modified, I'm sure you're not missing any connections. Have you found a schematic for your year model? I have a Renix-era XJ, so my fan circuit is a stand-alone system. Have you tried simply changing the fan relay? Or at least checking the trigger...

    Ca smog fail. Help!

Is it possible that your new converter just isn't doing it's job properly? Have you been using the same shop every time?

Better Door Seals For Early XJ

I only did the front driver's side door. It's the only one that had been beat up and was in need of replacement. The door seal is the same all 'round. You only need to trim the length down. I have read that the later Cherokees had thicker seals than the earlier ones, but I don't know the...

Better Door Seals For Early XJ

Just a quick FYI...I installed a new door seal about a month ago and was very disappointed with how it fit. It was so thick the interior trim wouldn't fit over it, and I had to slam the bejeezus out of the door to get it to close. I don't want to poo-poo the manufacturer, but I will say their...

    Air Conditioning Relay power

The AC relay is wired kinda weird compared to what most are probably used to seeing. Pin #30 is NOT a source of power for the load (AC clutch). The source is #87 is, and that current comes from your AC control panel through the pressure switch. Did you accidentally knock the connector off where...

91 4.0 AC does not work well in heat

I recently replaced my compressor, expansion valve, drier, pulled a vacuum on the system and back-filled with refrigerant, and the cooling was still terrible on mine, so you're not alone. For round two I'm installing a new parallel flow condenser, so we'll see how that does.

Trying to replace this screw / fastern clip

EDIT: No. One thing I see a lot generally, and on this forum A LOT, are people specifying fasteners by the size of wrench or socket they use to turn them, which is completely wrong. A fastener is specifieD by it's thread diameter, thread pitch, and length first and foremost. For a given...

    Renix Relay Sockets/Terminals

Last week I had a short circuit that scorched some wiring in my XJ and as part of the repair I sought to try and replace one of the relay sockets in the gang of four on the passenger side fender. They are unavailable from the dealer of course, but as it turns out, they are on off-the-shelf item...

    Distributor Indexing

Thank you for posting this, and documenting it with pictures. I want to try this with mine some day. I've read that these engines will run fine with the distributor completely disconnected, but I've not dared to try it. With the luck I've had with mine this past year it would probably burst into...

Source For Vent Window Seals, Better Door Seals?

Thank you for the reply. Are these OE or aftermarket?

Trying to replace this screw / fastern clip

I believe they're M6 x 1.0 bolts about 15mm long. M6 U-nuts are avsilable at most auto parts stores. If the ones they aren't quite right, as happens to me seemingly 90% of the time, a Riv-Nut works great in this application.

    Cooling fan diode???

The radiator fan diode is at the front DS corner of the engine bay. It's this little orange thing with three wires coming out of it. This is not the diode on the AC compressor for flyback voltage spike protection. Eliminating that particular diode would only result in damaging other electronic...
