My new XJ is a "Heinz 57"

Haven't taken it to inspection yet, it is currently under the knife at the air conditioner repair shop... 105 degrees here and the power windows are inop... priorities!

My new XJ is a "Heinz 57"

No inspection here in Abilene checks emissions anyway, so won't have to dodge that particular bullet.

My new XJ is a "Heinz 57"

Replaced head (7120), thermostat, water pump, radiator, serp belt and spark plugs, so engine is happy as a clam. Took it to the A/C shop today since the A/C blows a choice of hot and hotter. After the A/C is done will take it for safety inspection, it has been expired for a year. The station...

My new XJ is a "Heinz 57"

Altus, huh? My grandparents eloped there in the middle of the night (from Olton, TX) and got hitched. Since it has ECU / injection / exhaust / sensors / DIS from the 2000 model I bet the question won't come up. It looked totally stock to me when I picked it up, but I wasn't at all educated in...

My new XJ is a "Heinz 57"

Just acquired a 2000 XJ project with 133K miles, PO said the transmission was bad. After cleaning the gear position sensor, the transmission is no longer bad. However, Murphy wasn't done with me yet. After a few minutes, the power fell off and the temp gauge went up. I coaxed it back home...

Where to buy a new HEAD?

That same eBay vendor has a new aftermarket 0331 with reman valves, looking at that one pretty hard.

    AW4 swap early to late

No worries... I traded (even) a 1995 Mustang V6 with a bad tranny for this, and the body and interior are near-perfect. It'll turn out to be a nice Jeep. With the selection of tools I own, I would actually prefer to change the head than the tranny.

    AW4 swap early to late

Update: Torn up wiring went to the rear O2 sensor, not tranny related. Took the gear position switch off the passenger side and gave it a thorough cleaning involving Gumout, a brass-bristled brush, and dielectric grease. Installed a new TPS and coolant temperature sensor, cleared DTCs...

    AW4 swap early to late

Got antsy last night and hooked up a scanner to it. Results (can't remember the numbers offhand) Engine temp sensor dead TPS dead Gear selector stuck in park or gear (guessing gear for no crank) Advanced codes show a generic transmission failure. Best: I look under the thing and find...

    AW4 swap early to late

Symptoms that I have noted so far, but have not yet had time to investigate: CEL lit Airbag light lit No A/C compressor clutch engagement No power windows from any switch Transmission will not shift out of 1st gear until 4500 RPM PO had rigged a button underhood to engage the...

    AW4 swap early to late

Thanks for the info. Upon taking delivery of the XJ, I suspect that it has a faulty ignition switch that is not sending power to all the places that ought to have power. An AW4 that is being told either crazy things or nothing by the TCU deserves the benefit of the doubt before yanking. The...

    AW4 swap early to late

I am looking at buying a 2000 2WD XJ with a bad transmission, and own a wrecked '87 4x4 with a good AW4/NP231. I have read several posts here where people are installing late transmissions in early vehicles, what about the other way around? Thanks Tony

    Relocating Renix CPS

    Guess I could describe my weird project: I have a complete donor vehicle. It is a rolled (guessing on the year) 1988 XJ, 4.0 Renix, AW4, NP231. I have a 1985 CJ7 trail/rock rig with a tired 4.2 / T-4 / 4:1 D300. Sitting in the garage is a TF999 from another 1985 CJ7 that will be rebuilt by...

    Relocating Renix CPS

I am going to be putting a TF999/D300 combo behind a non-HO Renix 4.0 and am wondering about relocating the crank position sensor. A friend told me he has seen an aftermarket one that reads off the front of the crank, but am unsure whether this is an option for a Renix setup. Can anyone...
