PSA: Change your water pump - WPLM!

The OEM pump is the best... period. It amazes me that people replace it with an aftermarket. It's not even expensive.

    Intermittent start and then stall

Can also be fuel pressure related such as injector leaking down, fuel pressure regulator not in spec or fuel pump not holding pressure after shutdown.

Head off, replace rings while exposed?

Forum is not letting me edit my post. You would be replacing the ring from the top, but I'd still recommend putting the head back on and perform a compression test first.

Head off, replace rings while exposed?

You would be replacing the rings from the bottom. I'd recommend putting it together and do a proper compression test. Oil draining past the rings on a cold engine doesn't necessarily mean bad or broken rings. As stated above, there are many things that could go wrong with the ring replacement...

    Sealing a Water Pump

Just did this 6 months ago. First off, I used the OEM thermostat and waterpump with their included gaskets. I cleaned the surfaces up with scotchbright and installed both using the supplied gaskets dry. No leaks or issues. In my 40 years of wrenching, I haven't used sealant on gaskets. I...

    Waterpump suggestions

I replaced mine with a stock one at 155k miles as a precautionary measure when I replaced the radiator. Great quality and not expensive.

    Brakes clunking

Common problem with the XJ. I tackled it a few years ago on my '94. I followed the advice below and welded some metal back into the grove that had been worn into the knuckle: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=911655...

Can't even get the oil filter adapter T60 wrench onto the bolt.

I found a narrower T60 socket at autozone when I did mine about five years ago. It just barely fit. I put it into the adapter nut first and then slipped a small beaker bar into the socket. It wasn't easy to break loose but it did. Others have used other methods. Don't dispare as it can be...

    Lower Radiator hose

I just got a stock lower hose from the local dealer just a month ago for my '94 4.0. It was in stock with the jeep part number printed on it and had the spring.

    Ordering replacement carpet...

I ordered a set from them about three years ago in tan. Fit perfectly, just like the factory fit. They still look like new. I'm happy with them.

    Grooved Knuckles

That's how I did mine three years ago. Still no clunking and perfect brakes. Highly recommend the mig approach.

    Replacing Water Pump

Just did mine using OEM. Cleaned the surfaces up well and put the gasket on dry. Torqued to spec. No leaks. Dry gaskets go on dry. Adding silicone just creates more places for leaks to form ... Think about it :-). Helps to remove the radiator to gain access.

    Antifreeze problem

I had that same problem for about a year. Slight loss of fluid over time but no sign of a leak or mechanical issue. One hot summer day I finally found it ... very slight steam coming from the front of the radiator. It must have only been leaking under pressure or when hot. I replaced the...

    Head Noise (video)

'94-'95 come equipped with that noise from the factory. My 94 has been making that sound since new ... 150,000 miles and counting.

Silla all aluminum radiator from Genesis

Not to hijack, but I purchased a Visteon aluminum radiator http://www.evisteon.com/prod_serv/underhood/heat_transfer.shtml a couple of years ago from a local Levine parts store. It works great and still looks like new.
