Make sure both driveshafts are in-phase,
meaning the u-joints are perfectly parallel
with each other.
You're probably already aware of this, but
I thought it important enough to mention.
I use a flat sponge to block sand
curved surfaces like that. If you burn
through, give the spot a light shot
of primer, then lightly sand it.
Looks like your prep is going well...
You might try swapping the ASD relay
with a similar one (located in the fuse
center under the hood).
If the relay is sticking, it could be interrupting
the spark...
Well, if they did indeed replace the
throwout bearing, two other things come
to mind. As you mention the pilot bearing
is suspect, although they're usually replaced
with a clutch job. Another thing would be a
disc spring making noise, possibly because
the disc was installed backward...?(Don't...
Even with new calipers, my 96 still would stick
until I replaced the rubber hoses. After removing
the old ones, I tried blowing through them and
they were plugged solid. I think the inside rubber
degrades over time in these XJs. My 89 did
the same thing.
Anak, thanks for enlightening us on the Metri-pack, I wasn't aware of these.
Mrpd, how exactly did you solve this; were the two coil wires shorting
together where the insulation was broken? Or the pins inside the plug?
Are you sure? The wires don't look broken
in that pic......
That's a standard weather-pac connector;
should be able to find at a good auto parts
store.
