    high oil pressure

At lunch I turned the key on to fire up the gauges without starting the engine. The oil pressure gauge floated to 30+ psi while the engine was off. Turned on the engine and it went from 30 to 80 psi.

    high oil pressure

On my way to work I just noticed an 80 psi oil pressure while driving. However, it drops to around 40 psi at idle. It wouldn't be the sending unit, would it? Does a bad one fluctuate like that or does failure indicate a peg at 0 or 80? I'll fiddle around with it when I get home. I think I...

    Sway bar question

I eyeballed mine with a ruler. My old swaybar bushings were worn really bad and actually produced a thunk through the floor boards. I greased the hell out of them when I installed the new ones but within a week or two they started creaking. However, during my next oil changed I pulled them...

    time for tires....cooper?

I like my Yokohama Geolandar AT II's. Great in the snow and look good too. I complained about the soft ride a while back but now I like it.

Reminders on why I’d rather work on my Jeep.

I had a small shop replace my ball joints a few months ago. I noticed a squeak a couple of days later coming from one of the front tires. I also noticed the boot wasn't seated on one of the replaced ball joints. Took it back and they tried to tuck the boot back into the ball joint and...

Did you get anything for Christmas that is XJ related?

My wife bought me an SK 0-250 ftlb torque wrench and The Bone-ster. I'm a little surprised since there was a time she tried to ban me from working on my vehicles. I figured she'd buy me drum gear but maybe the cussing from the garage isn't as annoying as a drummer in the basement.

    My Trunk Won't stay open

I used to prop my hatch with a length of PVC pipe. Eventually I got sick of messing around and just replaced the struts. For me it was as easy as changing oil and about as cheap. Best $20 I ever spent. Mine started to first die in the cold, and then eventually died in the summer. My new...

    Blower motor stopped working

That's good news. My FSM said I had to remove the accumulator (think that's what it's called) which involves discharging the AC. Hope my 00 XJ is set up the same as yours.

    Blower motor squeal

Okay, now I know why I need to discharge the AC. It said I need to move the accumulator out of the way. What a PITA. I guess if I want to just lub the shaft, I might be able to get away without moving the accumulator. It only does it when it's really cold, <10F. I might put it off til it...

Things you would change on your XJ?

Tow hooks, the ability to fit larger tires on stock suspension, better build quality and quality control (you'd think a later model cherokee would be perfect after all these years).

    Blower motor squeal

Now that's interesting. However in my FSM for my 2000 XJ, it specifically says the AC housing doesn't need to be removed to remove the blower motor.

    Blower motor squeal

I too thought it was a little odd they mentioned evacuating the AC. I'll have to take a closer look this weekend.

    Blower motor squeal

Lately my blower motor has been raising hell, squealing like a stuck pig at most of the fan settings. Is there a quick and dirty way to quiet it down? I don't really wanna have to pull it since the FSM says I have to evacuate the refridgerant. The FSM also says they can't be serviced and I'm...

    Weird Heat Problem

This is on behalf for my dad. He replaced the radiator a few years back (overheated) on his 87 XJ. He says ever since it was replaced his heater doesn't get warm. He recently put on a new 195 degree thermostat which didn't help. The engine doesn't seem to get as warm as it should either. I...

    Oil Drain Plug

Not sure if he can take it to the same place or not. Of course, he runs the risk of it coming back with the plug tight as hell again. Those places irritate me. My wife insists on taking her car to those places, which I'm fine with cause it's a Saturn and I don't wanna have to crawl under it...
