There is a good 3/8" play when turning the wheel hub back and forth by hand.
Is that pretty bad? Is that really bad for the innards of the differential?
How do I correct that? The rear axle housing and differential is a Dana model 44 out of a 1988 XJ.
Here is a 4 second video posted to...
If your Jeep is an XJ, and not a Grand Cherokee ZJ, then the rear axle assembly is probably the one and only, Dana 44. Quadratec has a nice write up here https://www.quadratec.com/jeep-factory-axle-identification-chart. You can also check the tag (if it is still there) that is bolted to the...

Here is a video on the transmission input shaft:

The shaft on the front of the transmission is sloppy. Very loose.
Is that the input shaft, and not the output shaft? That would make more sense.
Totally by happen-chance, it is not the diff angle or anything to do with it.
Ugggghhh
:banghead:
Output shaft on the AX 15 is wobbling. Transmission has failed.
Time to seek out recommendations on acquiring an AX 15.
Hats off to any of you folks that have restored one of these vehicles...
