Did you remove the heater hoses if so you may have hooked them up backwards I did this and my 87 when I replaced the Rad and hoses it over heated real quick and almost blew the recovery bottle just a thought.
PS My Rad was toast had more holes and blocks LOL
Good Luck

I agree about the wiring Harness but no big problem I went tru the hole cleaning the connectors and no problem. I love my 87 Chief its my rusty but trusty it has never let me down, tough as a tank. I did own a 85 with he 2.8L V6 that one was a PITA got rid of it.
AutoTap is another one. My 94 cougar Had OBDII and you had to drive so many mi at 35 to 45 mhr then so many at 65 and over to get all the sensor's ready it was in the owners manual. Dont have the car anymore love Renix LOL
Good idea check that Radiator. I just left the cap off while ran the engine I could see the air comming out of the coolent ran it till I saw no more air shut her off and replaced the cap, It has never over heated. Thats after I replaced the Radiator and all hoses.
I don't think you unplugged the comp for the engine will not start or run without it. You may have unplugged the Transmission comp. where was the comp located?
