My XJ's Big Boy Stage II

I've had a couple of shocks break the loop on the axle end, but never that. Looks like lots of fun.

The "he who shall not be named" build

Man, you've had it rough with this thing but it's really straight for what you gave for it. Just means you get to put all the inaugural dents in it yourself.

    90 XJ interior lamps on

Easier just to set up for Weatherpack assembly. Looks factory, similar dimensions, snaps together, and seals tight. The crimper is kind of expensive. I hadn't thought about this previously, but the better trim packages have a switch in the latch for the rear hatch, and it can be finicky. You...

Aftermarket steering lines are aluminum, factory ones were steel. It's brown, probably.

Because I've owned more than ten of them and never checked any records. I've also never paid a thousand dollars for one, let alone two for a thousand. They're not worth much, but they're fun to drive. That yoke is the only thing that wasn't included in the detail job, so it's safe to assume the...

I didn't call you a moron, I just enlightened you to look at what you admitted to having no experience with. What you call nice clean undercoating is a cover up. Maybe I see it because I know what nice examples look like out here in the desert, or because I've been under a lot of them. I own...

Looks like copper to me, I wondered the same. Now seeing the whole drivers side, you can tell the bumpers, corners, and side trim has been painted, and the cheap car tires were freshly treated for pictures. Whoever prepped this turd is an artist.

You don't know what corrosion looks like under paint/undercoating clearly. I'd be willing to bet it was parked in grass for a while, and under a hundred thousand miles means it sat somewhere for a long time. I see some pretty rough spots underneath, but I'm not going to draw you a picture. I...

So long Renix, goodbye Bendix 9

Dash is out, Renix wiring is out and rolled up in a box. Looks like the Bendix 9 wiring goes into the firewall on the passenger side through a large round hole, I'll get after that once the HVAC cabinet is out and the carpet is pulled back.

    1989 Renix XJ Cruise Control

Don't know how I spaced it, but there's a speed sensor on the speedometer cable behind the cluster that you'll need, and on that note, the cable itself is two pieces. You'll need to change the speedometer cable too.

Need Help on 88XJ Rear Leaf Springs Forward Eye Brackets

I had one break the smallest leaf on the bottom once, probably when I pulled a 27' travel trailer a few miles. Didn't know until I disassembled the original packs to lift it. Still going strong ten years later on the same leaves, and I like big rocks between long stretches of dirt roads for days...

This forum doesn't allow basic members to edit posts, so sorry for the numerous replies. It looks worse every time I look at it. If I were to guess, it's on a used car lot, it was purchased cheap or stolen via "trade in" and was extensively detailed in an attempt to sell it to someone who would...

Oh, and it appears to have cheap Hankook car tires on it, which are like $45 each. Those really aren't much for inspiring confidence. "Look, it even has new tires!"

They even painted the exhaust, and it has a new muffler. For what it's worth, the worst place to look is not shown. Look at the front corners of the floor pan, inside or outside of the unibody frame. They tend to rust through right there, and any repairs would be obvious. Probably why you can't...
