I just noticed an odd clicking under the hood of my 2000 XJ Sport 4.0L back by the firewall. The clicking happens about 3 times a second. I tracked it down to this component, but I'm not sure what it is... Can anybody tell me what it is and why it's clicking? Detail: Location:

Haha...my mistake. All the consumables are replaced regularly (fluids, filters, etc.). I actually just flushed my radiator this past spring, and try to do it about every year and a half. Sounds like the radiator cap is a good place to start. I'll give it a go and see if that fixes the issue!

Everything is original under the hood except the a/c compressor. This has been a good vehicle that I've driven cross country several times--and I'm supposed to drive it to Atlanta (9 hours away) this weekend! Haven't tried replacing the radiator cap... Should I skip the water pump for now and...

Ah yes, winter in Ohio. The wind chill is 15 degrees F and my XJ seems to have some issues surfacing... 2000 XJ Sport 4.0L 165k miles, all stock. A couple weeks ago, the engine was running a bit hot, and I found that coolant was running low. My fault, of course, so I mixed some antifreeze...

Hard to say what's going on...it did this for a week but this morning, it ran just fine again. No noise, normal pressure. I'll chalk it up for goblins at this point.

Hey folks, newb with a question... The other day, I started my 2000 XJ Sport (4L) and noticed an almost gurgling sound coming from the engine. Loud enough to hear when idling, but doesn't increase in sound when driving. Also, the oil pressure gauge jumps straight to 80 and doesn't move...

At least it's easily accessible. :) Looks like I get to work from home tomorrow and fix it. I found a factory service manual, so I should be good to go. Any ideas of cost for the clutch for the AC compressor? Cheaper at AutoZone or the stealerships?

Hmm...so does that mean I have to replace it before the XJ is drivable again? There's no way to get around the A/C?
