We'll call high rise to verify. We aren’t aware of recent changes: Vehicles with an elevated chassis over 4" total lift, are still illegal without valid high rise documentation. You passed emissions, not high rise. You’re at risk for, but not limited to the following: Tickets Found 'at fault'...

From what I been told 'yes'. We're guessing the biggest reason is because high rise is lumped in with bus, reconstructed vehicles, etc. Dropping these inspections would create a backlash from parent groups and safety advocates. Also factor in the high rate of rejections these categories produce...

law in NJ with no doors

Agreed. The key word being 'yet'.. I see 5 violations on a 10 second view. You may never have an issue. As long as you're OK with the potential risk more power to you.

law in NJ with no doors

As Vette stated, doors are a grey area. The lumped statue of 'Unsafe Vehicle' applies. It can be applied to body integrity, lack of mirror(s) and an entire range of non-specific observations made by the officer. In most cases those driving doorless XJ's probably have plenty of other...

FYI. High Rise is not affected by New Jersey's pending inspection changes dropping the mechanical portion of inspection. All of the previous requirements for high rise are still in effect.

Please be aware that everything is relative. A 6" lift and 3' foot tires may be huge to you, but to others that may be considered modest at best. There are folks on this thread that easily exceed this.

We agree with Vette.. If your rig can't pass High Rise it falls into one of two basic categories. 1) The rig has definitive safety problems that should be addressed. 2) The rig is has been modified/built to such a high degree that High Rise really isn't properly equipped to determine the...

We are still trying to verify this, but our understanding is doorless on any vehicle not specifically designed for it is illegal falling under 39:3-44 -unsafe vehicle. We suspect this would apply to any unibody vehicle.

This is a good example of the inspectors interpretation of the statutes. Joe's a good guy and is using the older general interpretation on flaps (width of tire, extending to axle centerline). This is the one we personally prefer, as it's very simple. :).

As long as tires are contained, mud flaps are width of tire and extend down to at least 8" from the ground (in the rear) you should be fine. The axle itself is not an issue, as long it has all of the properly brackets, brakes, lines, etc that would found on the OE axle. We've gone through...

As Dest pointed out, depends on tires you're running, amount of sag (if any) with your 3" lift, etc. But yes, you are probably close to or slightly over the 4" limit. Normal inspection can't fail you for being over 4" if they determine that is the case. They can only refer you to high rise and...

Most vendor supplied kits would pass as designed. Even fairly poor quality kits would pass if installed as designed without compounded modifications. One caveat would be the GVWR of the target vehicle. For example: A) TJ-1 has a GVWR 4450, limiting it to 7" total lift. B) TJ-2 same year...

Need mud flaps advice for NJ inspection

Actually - Probably won't help.. Sounds like you know what you're in for.. I'm running 6+ lift with 35's as well. I used mid-weight roofing underlayment. It was rigid enough to hold shape, but lite enough not to require a supporting frame.
