I'm now balls deep into the project and HOLLY CRAP is it a lot of work (time). That's it...that's all I wanted to say.
On the up side, My floors will be really strong.
Matt
Some of the rust spots are pretty bad, but they are mostly towards the outside of the floor and into the rockers. I am dropping the gas tank tomorrow and doing the final prep work so I can start the repair. Thanks for all of the tips.
My jeep is becoming more and more a trail toy and less and...
Thanks,
I made templates out of bristol board and you're right, looks like I have a lot of subtle shaping to do. The trasmision tunel is in good shape. THe rest of the floor...meh. Hurculiner is in the plans and hopefully I will only have to do this once!
My floor is cut out, rocker are also cut out and I just ordered 16 ga sheets for a replacement Way cheaper than floor pans and will be much stronger (rust resistant). I had the shop put a 90 dgree bend that will run along the inside of the door sil (rust ate some of inside and all of my rockers)...
Terry,
I have been checking out rockfrogs.org for a few years now and have followed your build.Sorry about the wreck, but great job on the new xj. I have rotted rockers and have been grinding and cutting metal off of my xj for some time now. I just yesterday purchased a new Miller 180 and will...

Just do an advanced search with his name and you'll find a pretty cool build.

Thanks for the help Jess. I am sorry to ask for more, but I left out some details. No noise at idle, apply gas in neutral or park (up to 3000rpm), no noise. Put it into drive and the noise start (seems only under load)...pop cans rattling around. Thanks in advance for the help.
Matt
It sounds like there are soda cans rattling around in my engine. Haynes manual says could be a stuck lifter, but this is a little out of my realm. Any advice?thoughts on what this could be. I'd rather do the work myself than pay a garage. Any help would be appreciated.
It will pull you out when you get stuck. Really inexpensive. Disposable winch. If you burn it out, no big loss...if it works for years, then it owes you nothing.
Great work man!
I have to replace a 6" piece of frame on the driver's side rear of my jeep and I was a little nervous about that until I read this thread! Thanks for the inspiration!
Well done
The TTB seems like a bit of a red headed stepchild (no offense to any red headed step children intended) and a ton of work. You should check some of the axle builds that are available... Some Awesome ideas! http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=907435...
