2021 - Who's going to step up? Elections

I'm not sure where these elections are at - but I need to remove myself from the running for any positions as I have put up the Xj for trade/sale. Certain things did not end up happening, and other unplanned events have that have made it necessary for me to get a vehicle that is more...

    Hello everyone.

Nice man - Did you end up getting rid of a rig or two for the trip? I remember you having a couple MJ's and an XJ?

    Modernizing the XJ

After watching a video on how to recover a steering wheel, I'm not sure I would attempt it myself. I wonder how much an upholstery shop would charge to recover with the heating elements slipped in.

    Snow Run 1/10/2021

I might be able to make this. Jeep is working well enough

    Modernizing the XJ

I'll be starting work on the XJ again soon once we close on a house. Have a few things lined up so far - seat heaters, double din, rear camera, remove a leaf or two out of existing leaves, and rebuild a few joints up front. The XJ already has bedliner under the carpet, but looking at adding...

    Modernizing the XJ

Lot's of good input here. The WJ - I almost bought one before buying my current XJ, but the one I want is the most highly desired one - 4.7 HO. Overland - but people are pretty aware of their value these days. I chose the XJ for many reasons, mostly because I know it so well, the aftermarket...

2021 - Who's going to step up? Elections

I second Greenz for VP! If I'm allowed to vote.

    Modernizing the XJ

I'm a big fan of the TJ, but I would rather go with the LJ. Both of these lack a lot of the benefits that the newer rigs have, and finding a good deal on a LJ isn't easy. The main reason for the stark comparison is because I have recently been seriously considering buying new, and for the long...

    Modernizing the XJ

I like both sides popping up here, some good points as well. A couple more pieces to the puzzle - I rented a JL in desert of socal for a week last year, and was pretty happy with it - largely road manners. Also the girlfriend's car has all of the creature comforts of a modern vehicle, and IMO...

    Modernizing the XJ

Good info! Did not know they were having issues with them. It sounds like there is a manual conversion as well. Either sound like good options. I do plan on permanently mounting an air compressor in the jeep, so that would work.

Dang, I missed this post. Definitely would've made it out there.

    Modernizing the XJ

My goal for this thread is compile ideas and document the upgrades/changes needed for the Jeep XJ platform to compete with more modern 4x4 options. Here's my "why" - feel free to jump to the good stuff(once it is there): Long story short - Financially, I can afford a new Jeep JL/Gladiator -...

    3-4/5" lift kit recommendations

This right here. 2-2.5" lift on 29"-30" tires. Only thing I would do different is upgraded control arms only due to the bushing being more secured in the arm(less likely to get loose) and less control arm flex giving a more solid feeling ride. Anecdote here - when I first bought my previous xj...

    The ol' death wobble

My vote is the poor geometry and the caster not being in the sweet spot, and/or loose tracbar bushings. What's always worked for me is to point the pinion at the front t-case output and see how that drives (probably poor) and then keep adjusting the pinion lower and lower until it drives nice...
