Unfortunately I had no brake fluid so I had to pass on that...the fluid didn't look so hot, so that'll be the next job. I replaced everything this evening...I would still be out there if it weren't for a kind gentleman who passed by and saw me having problems...apparently with Jeep the brake...

When I compress the piston, should I take the top of the brake fluid reservoir? Also, after compressing the piston, do you need to bleed the brakes?

Alright, I'm off to autozone to pick up some rotors and brake pads. Any advice/tips for this job? Is it easy to get the caliper off and the new brake pads on? I already have a c-clamp for if I need to push the caliper back to make room for the new pads.

The pedal did not lose pressure, it was like having reduced braking but still a good pedal. The braking ability felt a bit "better" than if you were to turn on the car, but not start the engine, put it in neutral, and attempt to brake after you start rolling. I bought some jack stands...

What makes you think the rear? The noise really sounded like it was coming from the front, like the front passenger side.

The front pads are between two and three years old. I don't an incredible amount of driving, though, less than 10K/year. I felt the rotors and they felt smooth, couldn't notice any serious grooves in them. I also couldn't notice any "play" in the calipers as I attempted to wiggle them...

i`ll check the fluid but i`m thinking this is mechanical. he sound was as if something gave way and was now rattlingaround. still makes a horrible noise that varies with the speed of the vehicle as well.
