I was trying to do it without that nut removed and let me tell you, that thing is on there tight. I was slamming it hard too, it doesnt help the slide hammer (autozone's loan-a-tool) came bent and i think im bending it more and more everytime i use it i dont even know how. I might just throw it...
Allright, so hammering on those bolts got me nowhere. Everything is pretty rusty up there so it doesnt want to budge just yet. What i am wondering is if i pull off that 36mm nut and use a puller/slide hammer will that be able to get the axle shaft out? I cant get the vaccum shift motor off...
Allright, definately the U-joints. If there is more to it i won't know until i replace those. Only problem is i can't find a 12 point socket to fit those 3 bolts (dont think i have one small enough) and they are so rusted on there i think they are just gonna strip anyways. Are they definately 13...
So heres the problem:
My brother's YJ, the problem child in the family, has had this problem since recently after he bought it where when it was in 4wd the front axle would clunk and hop and once on my driveway he was moving forward (its uphill slightly) in 4wd and it clunked and the jeep rolled...
I don't plan on driving around on it for a while, just wanted to know if i could make it to the autozone nearby without major oil leakage. Otherwise i have to put gas in the other beater thats filled with all my tires.
I suppose next time i should disconnect that stupid wire.
Man, this was the biggest PITA on my jeep. My jeep spent all its life (before me) in southern MA getting wheeled on the beaches (and by the looks of it in the water too). The floor is rotted through so i could see through the framerails into the top and i didn't think i was gonna get them out. A...
thanks guys, that was my first guess but wasn't sure. Guess i need a new one cause i think the oil filter wrench slipped and hit it (i was using a crappy one). Can i drive without it on there or is it something that will cause an oil leak?
I was takin out the oil filter to replace it and noticed this part was broken. I am not sure if it was before or if i hit it. 1993 cherokee 4.0 HO. If anyone knows what this is that would be greatly appreciated.
its the one my finger is pointing to...
Sorry i forgot to include info. Its a 1993 XJ with the 4.0 HO. Do you think it is worth it upgrading to the 2000 CCV system?
As far as that picture, that piece connects to a hose going to the intake manifold. When it is connected it is at the rear of the valve cover like where i have been told...
Thanks a ton for your help guys, you helped me figure out my brothers oil problems too. But i am still confused on one thing. Take a look at this picture of what i was under the impression was the PCV valve: http://community.webshots.com/photo/269864747/348315055DYyKgM
I looked in the haynes...
So what do you suggest doing about the crankcase ventilation? I plan on replacing the seal when i get a chance, it isnt giving me problems around town, but i am driving another car now. I have gone harder than that on the thing without problems and this is the first problem.
the weird thing about it is that it barely leaks now, maybe one little spot when it has been sitting for a while, like 1 or 2 drops. When i drive it the oil pressure is now up around 55 today. The oil on the cat and muffler burned off on the highway already (thats how i knew i was leaking oil)...
Do you have a lift on it? If it still has the stock shackles and they are as rusty as mine were ( http://community.webshots.com/photo/298036192/299627534bKFJPc ) then i would say take a look at those. That picture is after i broke it with my hand. The only amount of metal connecting the other...
