Just to throw in a wrench. Kristoffers' idea with the resistor wouldn't work. The rear O2 is supposed to chage values just like the front ones, albeit at a slower rate.
On my Y2k with the cats in the manifolds, I don't have an O2 after the rear cat. Technically you could gut the rear cat...
Before removing the caliper insert a pry bar or long screwdriver in between the inboard pad and the rotor. Pry the pad back towards the caliper's piston and you got it. Faster than the c clamp too.
The only vehicle you have to open bleeders on is 88 and up GM trucks and SUV's.
FYI, stock 03 Yukon Denali, with awd and a powerful 6.0L gets almost 16mpg around town. My Y2k XJ gets the same mileage, same driving, 31's.
Downside, you would never take it offroad!
And to correct a previous post, You Can Get Tahoes with third row seating!
I've put alot of manifolds on as a mechanic. Most are made in china. With the flex part I've never had one fail. As for the rust issue, I've never seen a factory manifold of any brand rust or corrode out. Are all factory manifolds SS?
I know that the older motors had the temp sensor in the head right in the top at the back of the intake. I can't remember if the newer motors have a removable plug there or not. Everything else should be a bolt in if you change the manifolds over.
I'm a professional mechanic and have installed alot of the aftermarket (China) manifolds. Never had a problem. As long as they have the "flex" area you should be OK.
Snap-On sells "turbo sockets", they shoulg get them right off. I believe Sears is selling them now also, but can't think of what they are calling them.
OK, I did a search but nothing definitve came up. Does anyone know of any stock seats that are either a direct bolt in or easily modified upgrade for the 2000 xj? I was thinking maybe Grand Cherokee or somethiing along those lines? I broke the driver's seat today so its time!
Buy a real "tow rig". The xj isn't really a towing platform. Its unibody, relatively short and narrow, and what about transmission and cooling issues? I have a F250 and without the trailer brakes working it will get pretty hairy in an emergency stop. This is just pulling, no extra weight on the...
For now you can just run the hose into the bottle. Its not pressurized in there. All it does is allow for the fluid to escape when hot and suck it back in when cooling. As long as the hose is submerged below the coolant level you won't have any problems.
I put a Jasper in my Y2K XJ. 3/75 warr. parts and labor. You put the first one in and if it fails take the Jeep to a Jasper dealer and they will pay them to put in the next. Pretty good deal at $1750.
