If there is enough room, maybe you can try replacing the freeze plug with an engine block heater. It just a matter of prying the plug out, inserting the block heater and turning a bolt to seal it (IIRC it comes with a rubber gasket).
I have done this repair many years ago on two Jeeps. Don’t remember all details but if you remove the plastic trim in that roof corner, there is just enough room to slip a wrench inside the pillar. Wasn’t easy and I think I used a short wrench and maybe it was taped to a piece of stiff wire...
Most likely it’s water/humidity accumulated in the VSS connector. I had the same symptoms after driving in a very heavy rain. Problem would come back every time it rained. I unplugged the connector, cleaned it and used some WD40 to take care of the problem. It has been good for few months now...
Whatever pump you chose, don’t over tighten the belt: less is better than more. If it squeals, just tighten slightly more. Your bearings will thank you for it in a long run.
To OP:
Your original message does not state that you had several sensors that you swapped out and got the same reading. Please re-read your post. Is any of them OEM new or are they yard pull-outs? At least, have you confirmed any of them as “normal” when running in a different engine?
What was...
Whenever you notice some strange oil pressure readings, the simplest thing to do is to replace the sensor. They fail quite often. I always have a spare and already have replaced them several times on all of my XJs. It’s a 5-minute job.
If you have time & resources, connect a manual pressure...
On my ‘00XJ, there are 4 screws on top of the panel and 2 screws on each side of the glass, behind the struts. The bottom part is retained by those plastic “christmas tree” pins. The side screws are difficult to see or access, so you may need to remove all plastics around the rear side glass and...
I just went through similar problems on my 2000. From memory, this appears to have the same codes and intermittent stalls or starting problems.
Long story short, after replacing few sensors and after some time spent on wiring, it turned out to be simply a dying/weak battery.
X2 on verifying...
Michelin LTX M/S2.
Smoothest & quietest tire I have ever used on XJs.
An A/T rated tire will probably be louder.
My wife was even more impressed:” it’s like driving a completely different new car”.
I’m not sure about prices in US vs. your budget.
The proper procedure is to turn a ¼ of a turn only and back up to break the chips.
Use plenty of lube/cutting oil.
It’s also by feel. If difficult, I turn 1/8 of a turn only or adjust based on effort.
You can also remove the tap after few turns and clear the chips with compressed air.
I never...
Wow, I have the exact same model except it has a different logo (AGWAY). Mine is still running great but I sure could use the mowing deck that was stripped: mine needs to be replaced.
Anyway, I hope you do well in this race. I will feel proud riding on mine this summer. I may even paint it the...
My experience with this support was very different. I was not able to install it on two of my XJs without unbolting the gearbox. It may be related to different years?
None of the 4 XJs which I have owned came with this support from the factory and they did not have tow hooks either.
Over the...
IIRC this support was included in the tow hook kit which I purchased from the dealer many years ago. I believe it is installed on XJs with the up-country package or with the tow hook option.
The steering gearbox has to be removed in order to install/bolt this part on the front crossmember. It...
This “new” box does not appear to have been rebuilt or opened. I definitely feel it is an internal problem. As you mentioned, maybe some dirt in one of the orifices. What I can add is that I can also feel a slight jerk to the left on the steering wheel when I start the engine.
The problem...
I just replaced my steering gear on my ’91 (4.0L). The old box was leaking at the input shaft seal. I found a relatively low mileage unit from a 2000.
While I had the draglink disconnected, I started bleeding the system. I followed the FSM procedure.
After the bleeding process, I noticed the...
