After a month and a few days of use, and actually putting grease in the hinge for the tire carrier, it will open and close with one finger, even on an incline. If I had actual decent metal tools, I might even consider selling one or two to make a few bucks because I have had no luck finding...

Re: Project "Something Awesome" I have not even decided to actually sell it, so I have no idea what I would ask for it. Ideally I could find a 66 or 68 stang and convince the owner they need a Jeep. That or a Land Rover.....

Re: Project "Something Awesome" That is what I am doing, so don't copy me. I am just going to get a shorter muffler and do a slight turn down so that is doesn't blow exhaust straight onto the axle. I might do a new cat if it is also shorter, to move the muffler and turn down ever farther...

Is this closer to what you are looking for? The bedsides were swiss cheese, so we did the rockers and bedsides at the same time, so no pics of the stock bedsides. The bed was off or loose during the install. There are 2 supports running to the "frame" in the front, and another support running...

The MJ looks like a decent setup. My only advice is that if you are taller (over 6ft) or plan to spent much time in it, the Comanches do start to feel small if you are used to an XJ. I have had both, and while I would not hesitate to chop my current XJ into a 2 door, if would be hard for me to...

It is actually just a standard 1" bolt, with a piece of tube stock with a grease fitting. At each end of the tube stock, there is a metal bushing that fits between the bolt and tube stock, also keeps the grease inside the tube. It is from a piece of heavy machinery, and the strength is limited...

Finally got my tire carrier to a place where it is functional. Still have some smoothing and finishing, but it is 1000% better than before. A greasable 1" bolt and bushings for a hinge, and a latch plus a pin for the drivers side. Add in a cable and lock for the tire security, and I am money.

After doing the tube on mine, I know exactly how I would boat side an XJ, and other than trimming the doors, the boatside is about the same amount of work, and maybe cheaper for materials too.

I think you should do boatsides, go all the way, you proved that you can hit your rockers at will.
