    Renix No crank, no start

I have a ‘88 4.0 auto. Went wheeling in my XJ a few months back. Got stuck in a big mud puddle. Eventually got out and drove home. No issues. I washed it down and parked it until now. Went to start it, no crank. Got a new battery, replaced the starter relay, nothing. Tested the starter by...

    NP242 w/SYE. St. Louis area

NP242 transfer case from a 1997 Jeep Cherokee XJ. Has hackntap slip yoke eliminator installed. Bought it for my 88 without realizing the input shaft is different for my transmission and won’t work on my Jeep. Will fit ‘92 and up. In perfect condition, no leaks, and shifts into all the gears...

    Another 0331 curse

So I picked up a 2000 sport about a month ago. Got it for cheap as it has a misfire that the previous owner claimed he hadn’t had time to look into. Without going into too much of a story, I replaced a lot, it didn’t fix it. I did a compression test and I got no readings on 3 or 4. When I...

    NP242 install question

Novak conversions no longer sells the 21 spline with the late model cut. Does anybody have any idea where you can get an input shaft that you can use to make a late model 242 work with a early model 21 spline trans. All I can think of is either swapping the whole trans with a late model one or...

    NP242 install question

Thanks for the help RCP. Why won’t my 88 work? BleepingJeep did a video where he did the swap for a 231. He had to use the front of the old case because of bearing size but other than that everything bolted up Ok.

    NP242 install question

That isn’t something I changed. From what I’d read, retrofitting the case was limited to the speedo cable and 4wd selector light. Everything fitted together smoothly. No forcing at all. So that’s a bit of a surprise. And an obvious bummer.

    NP242 install question

After installing a lift on my 1988 XJ, instead of buy a new SYE, I got another NP242 from a ‘98 with the SYE already installed from another forum member. I’ve installed the case, bolted up the shafts, changed the fluid. Put it in gear... nothing. It doesn’t click like it’s going into gear when...
