    2001 4.0L issues

Problem update. It ended up being a bad O2 sensor. One of the wires was broken inside the insulation. Replaced all 4 with new ones from Rock Auto and now it runs like a champ.

    2000 Cherokee XJ Misfire Mystery

We have been battling the same kind of issues. Same codes except we did not have the P0351 code. I even swapped the ECM from another 2000 Jeep which you cannot do without having it programmed to work with your key. Ours would start and cut off almost immediately. Our issue ended up being an O2...

    2001 4.0L issues

Just an update. The coil pack and spark plugs were the first thing we replaced when the issue started happening. I also swapped out the TPS with another. The other day we took it out for a drive and it was running fine until we had to stop and wait for traffic to clear. It immediately started...

    2001 4.0L issues

So last year we purchased a 2001 XJ with 4.0L. After owning and driving for about 1000 miles it developed a problem where it suddenly starts losing power and running rough. This doesn't happen immediately, but seems to occur after 5-10 minutes. It runs like a champ and then starts to lose power...

    Evaporator Coil Replacement

Anyone replaced their evaporator coil? I was wondering how much of a task it involves.

    XJ Rims and Tires

Has anyone ever used 15" rims, which were standard size in the earlier years on a newer XJ that used 16" rims as the standard size? I have a 2000 XJ Classic and have someone looking to get rid of a set of factory aluminum 15" rims with BF Goodrich all-terrain KO's. I wondered if there would be...

    cooling problems - what else!!?

XJTripp ..... You are correct about the bypass slot next to the t-stat in the housing and I also thought it would let air pass just as the weep hole would. Also as to the filling of the coolant system, when I refilled my system after changing all of the parts, I removed the upper radiator hose...

    cooling problems - what else!!?

FatXJ - My engine runs around 40 PSI on the highway and about 20 PSI at idle. I run a 50/50 coolant mixture. The engine has alot of miles on it, but it has been very well maintained and has been using Mobile 1 synthetic most of it's life.

    cooling problems - what else!!?

Eagle - Thanks for your input as well. I was only referring to the bottle as a recovery so those who may not have as much mechanical knowledge about the closed system, but may have experienced the same symptoms might be able to offer some advice. I also realize the system is suppose to have...

    cooling problems - what else!!?

Rich - Thanks for your input. The water pump was just replaced along with the head gasket and other cooling system parts. The pump and other system parts all seem to be functioning properly, but as I said, the system seems to be building or getting excessive pressure built up and forcing the...

    cooling problems - what else!!?

Rich - I suspected the fan clutch as the initial problem in the beginning. The temp would start to rise while sitting in traffic at idle, but turning on the ac so the auxillary fan would turn on would return the temp to it's usual position on the temp gauge. The temp would also remain at it's...

    cooling problems - what else!!?

My 90' XJ with a 4.0L started out with the typical cooling problems you often hear about. At idle it would start to heat up, but with the ac turned on and the auxillary fan running, it kept the temps down. After going to Camp Jeep back in July, I noticed that it started to force coolant out of...
