I think the simple solution at this point, with everything else going on is to just pay to have it fixed. I can buy a welder down the road and since I do have stuff I want to work on with my brewery and I need to be able to do sanitary welds, I'll probably invest in a unit that does MIG and TIG...
I don't plan on lifting this Jeep or really off roading it. It's been a great, reliable vehicle to take into the woods for hunting and fishing as well as winter driving conditions.
I'd love to take a class at a community college, but that's not in the immediate future. I have a 2 year old and...
My 96 XJ went in for inspection yesterday and it needs a repair on the front and rear floor boards on the driver's side. I originally was intending to sell it as I really don't need a diesel truck, my wife's car, a diesel car I drive, a motorcycle, and the Jeep. I know I'm not going to get a lot...
I pulled the plugs on the first two cylinders, 1 is far worse than 2, but 1 is the cylinder I'm getting a code for misfires on, so I'm sure that's accelerated the fouling process. The contacts on the inside of the distributor cap aren't terrible, but there is some white corrosion on the...
Thanks. Would have been nice for the parts guy at Pep Boys to tell me that before spending $70 and the time plus a second trip since they sold me the wrong part. I'll check those tomorrow.
I'm getting a rough idle, noticeable decrease in power, and a very rough ride and sound. CEL is on.
To start off, this issue has been sporadic and strange. It used to happen only when the rain was extremely heavy and the vehicle sat outside in it or when I was driving through heavy rain and...
Anyone have any idea where to find a FSM for the 96 XJ? I can't find one anywhere...
Well, I found two on ebay, but I'm looking for a regular online store to get one from.
This probably isn't a primary cause, but it might be an additional factor, when was the last time you replaced your fuel filter? While you're at it, check the air filter.
If you're sure it's not an ignition problem, it's more than likely a fuel/air mixture issue.
The general consensus is the O2 sensor behind the cat...is that a code that will clear? The light went out and came back on. I've never seen an O2 sensor fault code clear on its own.
The CEL went off several days ago and everything was fine and it came back on again tonight. I didn't check to see what the code was yet, I just assumed it was the same code.
Anyone see the CEL go on and off for days at a time?
Dave, those look great, too. I wonder why the other guy had trouble with 30s...interesting. And just to make sure, the 30x9.5s will fit on the stock 15" wheels? I should get new wheels anyway, mine are worn pretty good.
It is OBDII...I can get a scanner, but I didn't have one at the time and I knew that you could get the codes by using the flashing CEL.
I still would like to get the factory service manual and a code scanner wouldn't be a bad thing to have either.
