Eric- the ID of the tube is actually around 2.025" so the seal, if there is one, would need to be around 2.029" OD to press in properly.
As far as the NAPA seals listed in the last post, I looked those up and the first three are 2.004" OD and the last one is 1.987" OD so these are similar to...
Thanks for the info and link.
I'm all for putting a seal at the diff if possible. The seal that came with mine, and most others seal numbers that I've seen mentioned for this application are sized for a 2" ID tube and measure around 2.004 outside, The ID of my axle tube is slightly larger...
I'm wondering how many here have replaced their Dana 30 two piece disconnect axle shafts with the Warn 38875 one piece shaft? More specifically I'm curious if anyone has used just the outer seal that goes where the disconnect was without using the seal that goes near the diff? If so, has it...
I have 36's with 7" and trimmed fenders and bumpstops. It's an inch higher than it needs to be though and I'm thinking about lowering it some. I think I would be happy with it at 6" or so, maybe even less.

Yes, the yoke will work. I've done it with my '86 (2.8L, TF904). I can't remember what year my double cardan shaft came from but I think it needed shortened 4-5 inches.

Re: (84 XJ) had 3" rough country, added 2" budget, and now my rear DS aint in all the way
The drop may help the rear driveshaft but it may make the front one worse. The '84-'86's already have a shorter front driveshaft than the '87 and up so for the front what you gain by dropping it will...
If you have access to one, I've found that you can use an electric impact in short bursts and just keep reversing direction on them until they start to loosen up and come out.

I've owned my '86 (2.8L, auto) for nine years. Mine actually runs pretty well for what it is. It's never thrown a rod or blown a head gasket but it isn't a very powerful motor and the carb can sometimes act up off road when you would least like for it to happen. For no more than they cost...
I wasn't involved in this thread at all until today but I also wanted to say thanks. I have an '89 that the wiper switch had been wired around by a previous owner. Battery to a fuse to a toggle switch to the wiper motor. After I put everything back to stock there was no voltage to it, until I...
Yes it will work. I did that on my '86 (2.8L, auto). Also, if yours is an '84-'86 and you get a double cardan shaft from and '87 or newer you'll probably have to have it shortened to fit.
Mike
Do you have both driveshafts in the vehicle? I think with the 228 and 229 there is a vacuum motor that shifts the transfer case from 2wd to 4wd and I don't believe they will shift into low range when in 2wd. If it is in 4wd and low range the case will be locked like a part time case but when in...
How did you check the flex plate? Maybe try unbolting the converter from the flex plate and pushing it away and then start it and see if the sound is still there. I'm not sure why it would have anything to do with changing the rear main but I had a cracked flex plate once and it did sound like...
