    Rear bottom shock mount busted

OK, so here's what I did. I used a foreign door bracked to make the bushing, 12mm all-thread from a local hardware store (metric grade 8.8, roughly SAE grade 5), and used some basic tools. Drove it today with excellent results. The Dremel and a basic drill, along with a bastard file, were key...

    Rear bottom shock mount busted

Thanks everyone for the replies. My shock setup is bone stock so I'm going for the dremel cutoff and bolt (shouldered to ride on the shock bushing) route. Will try to show the process and results. I'm banking on the right side doing the same thing to me so will load up on supplies for a two-fer.

    Rear bottom shock mount busted

'98 Cherokee classic (2wd, sorry) 4.0L bone stock with 8.25 Chrysler Posi-track rear. I changed the diff fluid (including additive) yesterday and was going for replacing the rear shocks (sprayed the shock mounting bolts with penetrating oil and let it work while doing the diff fluid). I was...

    Recommendation for GC (ZJ/WJ) forum

Hi all. I'm an XJ guy (98 Classic), but have a friend looking for a recommended forum of similar quality to this one but for the Grand Cherokees. Any suggestions please?

    radio question

Two different power sources. Always on (for the clock) Keyed to ignition (for the stereo) Both are apparently working by your description so 12V is there at both sources. Do what Tim said. My '98 factory stereo (yes, with a tape drive) died in the warranty period and I had it replaced at a...

Electric fan issue, need some insite

Old water pump, clogged radiator, or bad Tstat? All three suspect and work the system asTimMN mentioned above but the first three are classical failures on that vintage with 13 years. It is a marginal cooling system without lots of airflow. Electric fan only comes on if there is a demand for...

2000 xj cruise control question... please help!

I bought a replacement switch for the steering wheel (the left side one) from rockauto about a year ago because mine was going bad. I installed the new switch and it did not work (cruise did not come on; PCM did not recognize). I had to gut the new switch and use the internals to fix the old...

    Serpentine Belt throwing off

Thanks to all for the replies. Paradise called it. It's been running okay since I put the belt back on but you can see a noticeable wobble in the crank pully, some apparent rubber extrusion from the front, and I'm mor convinced it's the culprit as it looks to be just enough offset recessed...

    Serpentine Belt throwing off

'98 XJ 4.0 w/AC and 165k miles I replaced the radiator, water pump, and fan clutch about 6 months ago. It's been running great as always. This morning when I started it, it threw the serpentine belt off. I put it back on and it seems okay, but now taking a closer look, it doesn't seem quite...

Right Rear Turn Signal and Reverse Lights Out

Okay I found the problem, posting for others use. Coincident that the brake light and turn signal quit working at same time. I was T/S focused on the turn signal. Brake light was just a burnt bulb! Turn signal problem I traced back from the right rear fixture and ended up at connector 200...

    Evaporator Coil Replacement

I did this job about a month ago. The link up there by lazyxj is very good and helped out alot...I used it more than the FSM. You do not have to remove the steering wheel, just lower the column. The fit is a bit tight to get the dash over the steering wheel but its doable. I did the job by...

    Power Window Mystery

Same thing happened to my '98 classic. I bought the new driver's side switch assembly from rockauto.com. It wasn't very expensive if I remember right (though it is a made in china part) and it was very easy to install with just a phillips screwdriver. Problem fixed and been working good for...

Right Rear Turn Signal and Reverse Lights Out

So I went back at it again. Reverse lights problem was simply adjustment needed of the NSS switch (which I overhauled a couple years ago). It seems that I probably moved it out of alignment when pulling off the shifter knob as part of doing the A/C evaporator job. Everything works but the...

Right Rear Turn Signal and Reverse Lights Out

Hey there, I've got a '98 XJ with the 4.0 pretty much straight stick; about 150k miles. I'm forward deployed and my wife drives the green machine as a DD and have the luck of being back in Italy with her for awhile. So here's the story. I braved out the evaporator replacement a few weeks ago...

Help buying a fan clutch for my XJ

'98 XJ (Classic) 4.0 w/AW4 auto and A/C. I'm returning from a deployment and want to change the fan clutch when I get back. I'd like to order the part online so its there when I return "home" (Italy for now) so it has to be mail order. I looked at rockauto.com and they have one that is...
