    WTB: 2000 or newer 0331 4.0 Head

Problem is the 2000 and newer have 2 exhaust manifolds and 2 down pipes. Each down pipe has a small catalytic converter right after the exhuast manifold. This makes for 4 o2 sensors 2 before cats and 2 after cats. Now the exhaust ports on the 0331 head are signifcantly smaller than the 0630...

    WTB: 2000 or newer 0331 4.0 Head

I'm well aware of the risks of an 0331 head. Unfortantly i don't have the funds and time to try and mod everything to make work with an 0630 head, as that will require major exhaust mods. Thanks for the tip but unfortantly that won't work for me. Jerms

Need Help ATTN 4.0 Guru's No compression after head work

We are considering the option of a head exchange.. We ended up having to shim the valves about .020" what was really interesitng about that is after you installed a shim that was way too thin the valves would be slightly open. After allowing the engine to sit for about an hour the lifters...

Need Help ATTN 4.0 Guru's No compression after head work

There is news... We were able to get the valves shimmed correctly so that there was proper lash. However there is still a significant miss. We performed an engine hot compression test. There is bad news, cylinders i and two are fairly low. 1: 30 PSI 2: 60 PSI 3: 110 PSI 4: 105 PSI 5: 120 PSI...

Need Help ATTN 4.0 Guru's No compression after head work

You are correct the smoke is rising from the holes the pushrods come through, We may be loosing compression past the rings in some cylinders. I'm going to attempt to determine which cylinders are the problems.

Need Help ATTN 4.0 Guru's No compression after head work

I don't think the smoke is electrical as the smoke is coming from the engine internals (area where the push rods come up from the block). I have run the engine for a few seconds with the valve cover removed. I belive that the machine shop did remove too much material. I have done some...

Need Help ATTN 4.0 Guru's No compression after head work

The machine shop i had do the work has done lots of work for me in the past i belive that they do good work. They did a magnaflux pressure check and determined that the head was usable. I am still trying to dertermine how much they removed from the head. The steam/smoke that i'm seeing i now...

Need Help ATTN 4.0 Guru's No compression after head work

The valves were not recut.. We are trying to get it back together as inexpensivly as possible. Last night we were able to put a washer that was about .062" thick under the rocker arm bolts. This resulted in the engine running very poorly. There is obviously a few valves that are loose now...

Need Help ATTN 4.0 Guru's No compression after head work

I'm attempting to put my dads 4.0 back together here is a little history. The vehicle is a 2000 with the 0331 head. It overheated and warped the head. We had the head professionally checked for cracks and the head was determined to be usable. We had the head machined to straighten it out...

Found something that could be promising...

FYI, I looked into swapping a 60 from a late modle superduty erra f-350. The problem that i ran into is that they have the funky superduty 8 on 170MM wheel lug pattern. So you have to buy rims for a ford superduty and they only come in 16.5in. But what really turned me away from it is the fact...

    Winch question

I did it for my warn M8000, You will have to buy or make your own battery leads from the relay box to the winch motor. The problem that i found with situation was that no one sold pre made cables in the right gauge. My main battery leads for the winch are 2 guage. All the premade cables i...

    What is this

It depends on engine load, If you have near full throttle there is very little if any manifold vacuum. Doesn't really matter what the RPM's are just where the throttle plate is positioned. you will notice a diffence if you remove it. When climbing a hill your ventilation will switch to the...
