Are all aftermarket diff covers equal?

I have ruffstuff front and rear and love it. I have the counter sunk bolts on the cover because they help stiffen the whole center chunk. I have never had any leak issues but I use a goop to seal mine up.

    Re-gearing: Are 4.10's Too Big?

4.10 and 4.56 are about the same as stock for gearing when running 31's with the AW4 . I run 31 and 4.88 here in Michigan and love the "grunt" the Jeep has out on the trail. Highway is not bad... I have 4 inches of lift and I do not like going above 70 anyway in the Jeep. I can still do...

    One man lift install?

I did mine on a long weekend a few years back. I started on Friday night of a 3 day weekend and was done by noon Monday. I figure it was about 20 hours total. I have wimpy air tools so I spent a lot of effort breaking bolts loose and and getting the stump out when I twisted them off. I...

    Tire pressure question/suggestion

For Generic trails I run 10-15 PSI with GY MTR 31-10.50 on stock wheels. For sand dunes i run as low as 6 PSI with them... I have only lost a bead one time at this pressure and then I was being silly by doing donuts in the sand. I had a weak moment and the stupid pedal got the better of...

Dana 35 with 31's will there be problems?

Back in the day....I tore up a D44 with 31x13.50 on pavement.... I had a CJ5 with healthy 304. I was show-boating doing wheelies...Lo Range, wind up the V8 like an 8 day clock... Drop the clutch and parts of the D44 exited through the diff cover. I am much older and wiser now... and Do not...

    4.88 gears 32" tires

I run 4.88 and 31's... I only run 70 MPH because it is a jeep and has many rattles, squeaks, and MT tire on pavement drone. I do not believe that it is that bad. Jeff

    transmission and regearing

the straight up math says that 33's and 4.56 are the closest to stock, gearing, however the extra weight of the larger tires, extra rolling resistance, extra wind resistance from extra lift and are not taken into account when you just do a ratio of the old tire size and old gearing against the...

    Does size matter

I did 31 on stock gears and hated it... 31 on 4.88 now and it is great wheeling and around town.... Freeway... It is OK... No more 80 for me.

    Glove Box Issues

there is a little rubber plug stopper that holds the door from opening too far. Go to the JY and sit in an 97+ XJ and you should see what is holding it... Put it in your pocket... Or if you pay for it it should be under $1

dana 30 LCA skid weld on

I also added a similar strip of metal to the passengers upper mount. For insurance... If I do fold it or the lower mounts then I need to consider a bigger axle... Not just bigger mounts. Since I am a class one rod sicker and burn through artist I paid to have the welding done to a...

    What tire/wheel/terrain broke your D30?

Taint broke one yet... Mud/Rock/Dirt/Sand, 31x10.50 MTR, 297 Joints, with ARB and 4.88 gears, Ruff Stuff cover with the 1/2 inch ring and counter sunk bolts Mine has to be bullet proof because I drive it to and from the trail head. I also baby it a bit because if I do drop the hammer too...

    D44 swap - breather hose/brake relocation questions

If I recall correctly I took the T off the 35 for the breather and brake lines and threaded the hole for the brakes on the 44 to match. I then had the old breather hole plugged and they put a tack weld on it so that it does not spin out.

    AXLE UPDRADE

I run 4.88 on just 31's now. 70 MPH is about 2750 to about 2850. I have no issues with it other than I think I notice my drive line vibes a little bit because the drive shaft is turning a bit quicker. I recommend the counter sunk holes on the Ruff Stuff cover. It prevents the center...

    Radiator restrictor or no restrictor...

Years ago I had temp issues with a stuck thermostat in a '78 Buick. Being only 19 and not seasoned in many things my buddy and I just pulled the thermostat out... It was only minutes before we were overheated again.

    broken shock bolts

Try just a good sharp drill. I broke out the OME bolts and just drilled with a new bit. and tapped 1/4-20 I now use Grade 2 bolts in it. I have never broke one except when trying to get the bolt out. The Michigan winter and Road salt mean that once they are in they seize up pretty quick...
