I had an awesome time today! Thanks to everyone who made it happen. It was sure nice to put faces to the screennames and everyone was incredibley nice and helpful. Made a ton of new friends and that was almost better than hitting the trails.

Better check compression. With that much blow-by I'd suspect a bad piston.

Is it possible the failing PS pump is causing your poor MPG?

If a PO installed a 180 degree stat instead of a 195, would that cause a significant drop in mileage? Mine only gets about 16mpg w/31's and a 2" lift, auto, 3.55 gears, 95 Country. It runs real strong and smooth, just lousy mileage.

If it has transfer case drop kit installed you should check the linkage. It can be out of adjustment and not fully disengaging. Just a WAG. Good luck.

I'd love to go but I'm a newb with a mostly stock rig ( 3" lift 31's). Are there different difficulty of trails? What should I do to my xj before hand? Thank you for any help.

update: I just pulled the fuse block loose and looked behind it. UGLY. A couple of wires were missing several inches of insulation and had been hastely patched up, a few more had small bits of bare wire and had'nt been fixed at all.Some of the plastic was a little melted. I'm thinking about...
