'99 XJ will not crank, I'm Baffled!

This is what mine does randomly and its a bad/dirty Nuetral safety switch.. just turn the key and shift into nuetral and crank it, and if it doesnt start then shift into park and try it again .. repeat the process until it starts.

Long battle with overheating 96 XJ.

Well I'm back as promised. So I replaced the cylinder head, head gasket, and exhaust manifold. The head gasket fell apart when the head came off, and the exhaust manifold was slightly cracked near the flange. I have been driving the Jeep since yesterday and it runs COOL now doesnt even hint...

I wouldn't care if it hung out at 210, the problem is that it likes to have an affair with the 230

My fan clutch is just as you described when hot, but spins very freely when cold. Please explain how the tension matters if the engines cold?

Not an OEM water pump, but the one I replaced was in perfect condition, only replaced it because i had the suspicion it might be the wrong rotation. Both pumps yield the same problems. Peak temp of thermostat housing is always what the gauge reads + (5-10) Have not done an ohms resistance...

The bottom hose has a very hard spring in it, and is in good condition.
