Yes, calling the vendor is probably the best idea.
I’m in the early stages of planning which kit to go with and my first thought was to pick the brains here since y’all have been there and done that.
Thanks for the help 🙂
I’m sorry - it’s a 1999 XJ.
It’s step 65 in these instructions:

Further down is a picture of the underside showing that the exhaust has been re-routed.
Hi - I’m making plans to put a long arm lift kit (6 inches or more) on my XJ. Since I live in California I cannot touch the exhaust from the converter forward if I want it to pass smog.
I’ve read the installation instructions for the iron rock and another kit and they require exhaust mods ahead...
Mystery solved - It’s definitely the shocks. I replaced the old leaking shocks with the same shock that I have on the 2 wheel drive (they were on sale for $10 each new and are temporary until I put a lift on it) and they both ride the same now.
Thanks to all that responded!
Let’s see - the 2 wheel drive XJ has new everything in the front. The shocks are mid range Gabriels that I bought at AutoZone, also fairly new.
The 4 wheel XJ has old worn out everything - I’m not even sure the shocks do anything on it. It’s getting a lift soon so the worn stuff will go away...
I use royal purple synthetic in my power steering pump on my XJ.
I replaced the leaking factory pump
with a rebuilt pump and filled it with Lucas power steering fluid. On the highway after a few miles it would start making lots of noise. If I stopped for a few minutes and then got back on the...
I’ve got something that I haven’t been able to figure out and it’s bugging me. I’m hoping that the sleuths here can help.
I have a 2 wheel drive 1999 Cherokee sport that doesn’t have trailer towing or anything else suspension-wise on it.
I just picked up another XJ - a clean 4 wheel drive...
I put one of these on my XJ - took care of all of the track bar bolt slop. I got a new bushing too and used a ball joint press to install it into the trackbar.

Rockauto.com has them, $221.79 (OUCH!). They are getting hard to come by though; I'm thinking of buying a spare just to have it on hand because of that.
I found some genuine mopar CPS's on ebay and on summit racing and several other places.
Google "1989 jeep comanchee crankshaft position sensor oem"
They do seem to be drying up....
To have a diff grenade anywhere on 183 at speed is a religious experience given the way people in Texas tailgate - the last time I was on 183 I had a guy in a jacked up truck about .1 inch off my rear bumper the whole time, weaving onto the shoulder occasionally just to let me know he was there...
Something to think about when removing and replacing the pinion nut at the risk of coming across as nagging :lecture:
The torque on the pinion nut is achieved as the crush sleeve crushes. When you R&R the pinion nut it is very difficult to achieve the original torque on the pinion nut without...
Clayton offroad sells a heavy duty 9/16 trackbar bolt and a heavy duty bushing that removes slop in the OEM Jeep trackbar/bushing setup:

My bolt was tightened to almost stripping and it still moved around making...
