    head gasket

Most modern head gaskets do not require sealant. Iv'e built two 4.0s with felpro gaskets an no sealant with absolutely no problems.

    aw5 swap out or rebuild?

    The AW5 is a five speed auto used in the Volvo S and v70 series. They use the AW4 as well but with different gearing. Reduction ratios AW5 AW4 1st gear 4.77:1 3.61:1 2nd gear 2.10:1 2.06:1 3rd gear 1.96:1 1.37:1 4th...

    rc12lyc on 4.0 RENIX.

The rc12lyc is the H.O. OEM plug. I don't think you will have a problem running them but I would probably switch to the rc9yc anyway. The H.O. plug is slightly hotter and is an extended electrode gap and core nose projection vs. the RENIX standard projection core nose.

MD-3 Transmission Fluid for XJ AutoTranny?

It is the same stuff they just changed the packaging about 6 months or so ago.

    another renix fan switch?yada,yada,yada

I know you said you dont want to go aftermarket but the cost really isnt that much more than a RENIX sensor and having the adjustability is nice. Hayden adjustable control kit (90*-230*F) P#3647-----------$39.99 Factory RENIX fan switch------------------------------------$37.99 prices from...

MD-3 Transmission Fluid for XJ AutoTranny?

The MD3 fluid is what Crystler and Valvoline recomend for the AW4. Valvoline sent out a bulliten a few years ago to clarify that the AW4 takes MD3 while other chystler transmissions are ATF+4. MD3 is perfectly fine, I would make a point of letting any one servicing your trans know that it takes...

    Renix Stumped

The 344 is the stock heat range plug, I sell the 346 and my work I don't know why they didn't get a valid number and the autolite crossed back to a heat range lower. :dunno: I can't remember off the top of my head but the part number on the champions is like RC10YC4 vs the stock RC9YC. We stock...

    Renix Stumped

I would double check the coil, cps, cts, map and the fpr. You might want to try a step hotter on the plugs, you obviously have another problem but it might help. A champion 346 or an Autolite 3926 are a range hotter and readily available. Also is the gas fresh or three years old?

Whats wrong with a rear locker and a manual trans?

It takes some getting used to but I wouldn't say it's dangerous. I had a detroit in my 9" with a 5speed when I used my trail rig as a dd and as mentioned before, in bad road conditions take corners in nuetral or at least off the gas. It's fun if you want to do it, but there were a few times...

    JP Magazine intake shootout

I am working on one with a 97ish f150 air box, it uses a cone type filter that is fairly large, but I don't know of any paper filter that you can clamp onto a 3" pipe. Dr. Dyno, isn't a straight and long intake theoretically the best. Why go over the MC like that? Is it just to keep the...

    JP Magazine intake shootout

The problem with all of these intakes especially the cheap ebay ones and most homebrew setups is that they draw air from the hot engine compartment. The stock air box draws cold air from behind the headlamp and isn't a huge restriction. I don't think there is much of a difference between a...

    Aftermarket Head for the 4.0.

I looked at the He$co head and decided my money was better spent on an early HO casting and DIY port and polish. The port work made a huge difference on my stroker and isn't very difficult. You really can accomplish alot with a stock casting, some research, and time.

Is there a listing for the door trim? It looks like the front and rear flares are shaped to match the trim.

    Valve Spring Retainers

Hi, I had a cam and lifter failure on my 4.0L I rebuilt last year so I am having a shop install a new cam, lifters, and valve springs. I am at school now so I am over 100 miles away from the jeep. The shop called with questions about what retainers, keepers, and seals need to be used with the...

    CCV system

The cheapest and easiest to service fix is to pull the valve cover, remove the ccv setup and then just install new grommets and a generic pcv valve and breather. I've done this on both of my 4.0L and it helped my blowby problems a lot, and I have rubber heater hose instead of the plastic lines...
