XJ Front Brakes, BIG Brake Options

I have seen more people break things with limited slips a wheel in the air brake torquing for lock up than just wheel on lockers... I could see that. Even new ford d60's clear a 17" just fine. Not like those have small brakes. ... I wouldn't even go 60/14, 60/60u or 70u has better clearance...

XJ Front Brakes, BIG Brake Options

For a race jeep 17 and 18 rims probably have plenty of tires and for wheeling 17" is getting to the poiint were it has the best selection of tires and rims.

Interesting I was thinking about the sport trac brakes and I have an old set of knuckles in the garage.

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

The only thing I cant tell from that pic is shackle. He is using a same travel 5125 series shock as what's in my rock crawler and those expensive deavers.

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

Yea sorry this one kind of pushed me away from Deavers. They me be the best of the 52" leafs, but my midrange 57's have more travel than that. The local shop owner who has been building and wheeling buggies decades before I was born said 56/57" leafs would flex better and ride better if I set...

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

See that's weird I crawl through yards to steal rear driveways from exploders and have never seen broken leafs or even learners for that matter... After talking with someone on c.f. after his 64" swap I thinkin going to go that way. Lift should be about perfect for 4" with a shackle and flex...

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

The other rig for me is a ranger and the stock leafs did well the jeep 57's with a shackle do better, but I am also not as shock limited. Those max out my 11" travel bilsteins which allow like 14-15" of travel. Thats a couple years down the road with 1 tons and 38.5-39.5" tires.

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

Plan was to run 56 or 64's and see if they needed a traction bar. I run 57's on my other rig without on and it has more tq and 1 tons without issues (or ruining leafs).

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

More curious about running chevy 63's now still going to have to push the front moint way forward, but its a known setup that flexes well. The for 56's are as well outside of the xj world anyway... As for oem leafs I have never seen leafs have issues like this outside of Toyota's and...

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

out of 12 posts 6 are mine, 2 are yours, 2 say deaver, 1 is an additional question and one answers the question asked. I am set now my question was answered so short of more pertinent information coming up for the question at hand I could really care less what you have to say...

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

It turned into buy deavers. I thought I had a simple question and wanted a simple answer from some people that have done it. Figured NAXJA was the place to ask. Turns out CF had someone who had done similar and his build answered what I need. Hell I searched for a bit before asking anything...

Reasonable replacements for an 8.25 axle?

I am doing an 8.8" in mine, but it was free. So yea not exactly going to compare prices. They are still my vote for strength and simplicity even if you can't find a disk brake one the drums are still bigger than what comes on an XJ.

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

No I can't, but I refuse to buy new ones that I have seen fall apart on the trail within a year or two. Would rather purchase or junkyard a set of expo leafs or even chevy 64's would appear to fit. I think I can live with that height wise if I run ranger leafs. Should gain 1.5-2 from the leafs...

Ford 56" leaf spring swap with a twist

Pack is 4+1 or 3+1 depending what you go with. They flex better than the jeep ones I have had or seen on the trail. I am not a man of deaver money, building a leaf spring mount and running junkyard ford leafs for comparable flex makes a bit more sense to me. I also hear word on the street is...
