I'm taking a very big interest in this thread. I just ran out of gas about a quarter of a mile from my house with 211.8 miles on a full tank. Much walking, creative language and sore arms from the carrying of the gas can ensued. I'm here searching for the elusive answer to this quandary.

How much weight are we really talkin' here? The 4.0 is a fairly heavy engine to start with. I know that the Cummins is heavier, but suspension work is not a big deal to me. As far as the length is concerned, I was planing on cutting the fenders and hood to add some sheet metal anyway. And IF...
I've been thinking about putting a Cummins in my xj for a long time now, and was wondering if any one has ever tried it before. I know that the whole motor package with inter cooler and radiator is longer than will fit in my engine bay, but I'm not afraid to do some serious uniframe/body work to...
I've done this before. The only problem I had was no backup lights. If you're out in the woods at night and come to a dead end on a narrow trail, you REALLY need backup lights. Trust me on this.
If you're going to the trouble anyway, it's pretty cool to do an LED upgrade. You can get almost any color you want. While you're at it, it's not much more trouble to change the lights in the gauge cluster too...
I bought my '96 at 87,000 and drove the sh** out of it. It's now at 258k. Runs like a champ. I'm waiting for it to finally wear out so I can justify building a stroker.
You might have a rub through on the wiring for the o2 sensor. I had this happen a couple of weeks ago with very similar symptoms. Check bellow the manifold at the front of the engine. There may be a rub through in the wire loom against the block. The culprit should be the green wire with orange...
I had something similar in my 96. Check for a ground lug on the side of the block above the oil filter. It will have a few wires coming out of the wire harness attached to it. If any are loose, they could be causing your problem. Also check the fuses in your PDC. IIRC, the 30 amp mini fuse feeds...
I did some more searching and found that the cps is most likely the problem. So here's another question: Can I swap the one from my '91 parts rig into the '96? they look the same, but my shop manual says two different things regarding how to test them. I'm wondering if that means they are...
I spent about half an hour searching and I can't seem to find the info I need. I have a no start issue. It cranks but doesn't fire. It has good fuel pressure and no spark. I replaced the coil and tested the cps and looked for loose and broken wires. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone got any spare d30's sitting around in northern cal? I'm looking for something cheap. I'm buying another xj for $200 this week and it has a bent axle tube and lca. Don't know the gear ratios yet but I think it's got 3.73's. It's a 95 with 4.0 and ax15.
