I've done this before. The only problem I had was no backup lights. If you're out in the woods at night and come to a dead end on a narrow trail, you REALLY need backup lights. Trust me on this.

If you're going to the trouble anyway, it's pretty cool to do an LED upgrade. You can get almost any color you want. While you're at it, it's not much more trouble to change the lights in the gauge cluster too...

I had something similar in my 96. Check for a ground lug on the side of the block above the oil filter. It will have a few wires coming out of the wire harness attached to it.
