Different brake pedal feel after booster replace

MJcruiser54 had it...crappy fluid. Crappy enough to cause my drivers side caliper to lock up last Friday. Removed, cleaned the smudge out of the caliper, and bled a bottle and a half of fluid. Pedal is firm and now all of the new brake hardware works a lot better. Thanks everyone!

    Aw-4 trans question

The same thing happened to me last week. Drove 500 miles and lost 1st, 4th, and OD on the way home. Replaced the solenoids (global transmission kit had all 3), new fluid, filter, and gasket and full function restored. Not difficult at all. Hope you figure it out.

    AW4 Solenoid Replacement

Evening all, 96 Classic 4wd with 249k on original drivetrain. Recently drove 500 mi round trip and lost 1st, 4th, and OD on the way home. NAXJA search seemed to agree with solenoids so I bought 3 (global transmission kit came with gasket and filter) and replaced them. Worked great, runs great...

Different brake pedal feel after booster replace

2 weeks ago the brake booster failed on my 96 classic 4wd (no ABS 4.0 247k miles) while commuting home on I-4. Fortunately the stop and go traffic allowed me to feel the brake performance diminishing and hear the whistling get louder. I was able to exit and take surface roads/handbrake the last...

    Stumped by start/run problem

Update: Confirming easy cold restart this morning however..settled into normal idle and then stayed there for 15 minutes. Goosed throttle several times no stumble. Was able to restart with no problems 6 times. Last night during last start/run I unplugged and replugged IAC, Intake temp, and...

    Stumped by start/run problem

Evening all, 96 4.0 AW4. 240k. After replacing cooling components back in October I have been enjoying a dependable worry free XJ on my 60 mile round trip commute..until.. A month ago while leaving home in the AM she stumbled with light throttle. Didn't make it out of the community. Borrowed...

96 misfire code and dist cap

I posted earlier but it does not look like it made it to the forum..trying again. 96 4.0/AW4 owned since 97 with 240k miles. Recently have had misfire code thrown/crappy idle/bogging and shutting down. Would a distributor cap with what appears to be fine brass dust coating the top perimeter and...

Evening all, Lately I've been hunting down a rough idle/rough running condition. I've owned this 96 since 97 and it currently has 240k on original 4.0/AW4. The problem has developed over several weeks prompting me to replace the IAC, TPS, spark plugs, 02 sensors and intake manifold temp sensor...

    OPL radiator installed

For radiator posterity I thought I'd chime in and say that, so far, I'm happy with "Our Parts are Legendary" aluminum 2 core radiator (Amazon $145). It was close to being "drop in" with the exception of the bottom tranny fitting which was a bit tighter, and the radiator cap which had 2 larger...

Push loc lower tranny line-just push on?

Thanks guys. I got tired of messing and cut it off in favor of hose and clamps. Much easier!

Push loc lower tranny line-just push on?

Stupid question ..I know. It came off OK using the Lisle tool but man..it does not want to push back on! Radiator fitting appears to be identical in size and length to the old one. Are the little yellow tabs supposed to slide over the rib about an inch back?

    Water pump/radiator install questions

:NAXJA: 96 Classic 4.0/ AW4/ NP231 Stock. Water pump: Bought the dorman inlet tube which is an exact replica of original as far as I can tell. It came with thread sealer already applied. I installed the tube to line up with the heater hose and stopped when I didn't think I could get another full...

    Timing set brand matter?

While I have the radiator and pump out figured I"d do the timing set. Will any rock auto brand do? Cloyes, Melling, Sealed Power? Thanks

    Radiator time?

Thanks. I check back in sporadically but as it happens stumbled across that thread a few days ago and read it all.

    XJ radiators, a review.

Been looking at OPL radiators. Seem to have good reviews/build quality. Made in USA. Good price on Amazon. Think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EVWTXLY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2H7QOMY5MIU8&psc=1 https://www.facebook.com/OPLautoparts1/
