I recently acquires a 88 XJ that has been non op’d since 07. I’ve put about $1200.00 into it trying to get her roadworthy and today it failed smog. High HC and 02 Gross Polluter.
Leak down test and compression test looked fine.
It has a new catalytic converter, 02 sensor, muffler, battery...
Out of curiosity I removed some of the silicone on my old ecm and cleaned the board with alcohol and a Q-tip and now it works again. The silicone had tears in it so those were the areas I focused on and I guess moisture and dirt was shorting it out. I resealed it with GE 100% clear silicone.
Thanks, I went and bought it this morning and my jeep is up and running again. Turns out is was the exact part just 10 months newer, it even had the same part code.
My voltage regulator on my 92xj went out. I swapped my ecu from my 94xj into the 92 and it fixed my problem as a test. Looking for a 92 ecm but think a 93 or 94 will also do? Text 714-401-6079. Louie

So the mechanic said the 4 hole injectors I bought as a upgrade were actually causing a run rich condition and the fuel pump I installed from AZ he said was not delivering enough fuel pressure which I doubt however I let him swap it out and my O2 sensor was not working because of a relay between...
Thanks everyone for the advice! After throwing lots of time, money, and parts at this I dropped the jeep off at a local mechanic to diagnose this afternoon. I have 2 XJ's and this one is a 92 limited.
My 4.0 is OBD1 so a scanner is no help. Thinking my timing chain might be stretched since it’s been 100k since I last replaced it or the crack in my exhaust manifold may have damaged my O2 sensor. I plan to drive it a while to see if the computer throws a code.
So my jeep was running a bit rough and I suspected the stock injectors needed upgrading. I since installed the 4 hole injectors, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new fuel regulator, new cap & rotor, new spark plugs & wires. Only engine code is 12 because I disconnected the battery to weld a...
