Stand by what you want, I don't really give a damn. You're wrong either way.

Need info on 350 Chevy swap into XJ

Check out this site. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/xj_swap.htm They've pretty much covered the XJ small block swap. If I had an '85 with the 2.8 I'd certainly be looking at a small block conversion myself.

    better gas mileage

Not quite, in your original post you said a "new DD". Crazy me, but I took that to mean you actually meant a new, or at least, much newer car to act as your daily driver. You never said you were talking about picking up a $500.00 turd w/wheels. Of course that changes the equation entirely and...

Pic Request: Skirt removed/cut away on 2001

I removed the center portion of the skirt when I installed my front receiver hitch in Winter 2005. Very simple to remove. Just bolts to the bumper and a couple of rivets to drill out that connect to the side skirts. I left the side skirts/along with the fog lights in place. With the front...

    better gas mileage

I still say you're better off overall by only having one vehicle vs two, regardless of mpg's. There's more to it than just mpg's when you look at the big picture. If you're looking to replace the XJ then I can see the logic, but getting a second vehicle on the premise of saving money will cost...

    prefill new oil filter?!?

I've never bothered to prefill the oil filter because it will just make too much mess and waste. But if you're really concerned, why not just pull the fuel pump fuse and crank it over till you get pressure?? Then plug the fuse back in and away you go. Seems a lot easier than trying to prefill...

    Stock-ish Tire Advice

A great tire that I've been using is the Uniroyal Liberator A/T. They come in 225 and 235 sizes and have a tread pattern similar to the BFG's. They are great on & off road and the best part is the 225's cost me $58.42 a tire at Wal-Mart! I'm equipping my entire Jeep fleet with them.

    IAT Sensor Relocation

I tend to agree with this line of reasoning. If by moving the sensor you were actually changing the real temperature of the air then I would feel differently about it. But the air charge temp is unchanged. You are only tricking the computer to run richer than necessary and that doesn't always...

drill hole in bottom of difs?!?

As was stated above by another person, use a hand operated suction pump. Pump the old oil out, pump the new oil in. Very easy. You can pick them up for about $10.00. I haven't pulled the diff cover on my XJ in nearly 5yrs, but I change the fluid once a year. Takes about 30 minutes and is...

pitfalls if any while I am looking for an 4.0 with Quadratrack?

XJ's never came stock with a limited slip front diff, and even the full time 4wd models didn't always have a LSD in the rear. As for the "Quadratrac", I think you're sources are likely confusing full time 4wd, as offered by the NP242 "Selectrac" transfer case with "Quadratrac", which was never...

    better gas mileage

I had a 98 ZJ that I removed the front axle shafts from and saw a mpg increase of about 2 mpg. BUT that was due to the fact that the front diff was shot and was creating a huge amount of drag. If the front end is in good shape then the difference in mpg's would be minimal. My XJ is a 2wd and...

    better gas mileage

How much $$ will the new DD cost? Whatever the amount it would likely buy a lot of gas to run your XJ on well into the future. And keep in mind the new DD uses gas too so that further negates the savings. It almost never makes financial sense to replace one perfectly running vehicle with...

    0630 vs 0331

It is my understanding that any 4.0 with distributorless ignition has the 0331 head. The 0331 head is the only casting that has the mounting boses for the coil rail. So, that would mean the first 0331's were produced sometime in late '98 for the first WJ Grand Cherokees and by late '99 all...

Gas Cap on '01 throwing EVAP code

I had to replace the cap on mine for the same problem. But they're cheap at Advance Auto parts. Give them a try. If I recall it was about $10.00.

    front receiver hitch

I put a Drawtite on mine about 2yrs ago, love it. I just removed the center section of the plastic air damn. Looks tough and very practical.
