Love the dogs. Vanagons, while a Volks product and therefore suspect, are pretty awesome too.

In 1969, my Brother and I converted a '58 Microbus to a solid rear axle, ripped out the interior and put in a 6-71 Supercharged Big Block Chevy. Ducted the exhaust out of the top near the corners (where there are not windows...) and mounted the radiator just under the roof. NACA ducted the intakes (also roof mounted) for both the radiator and the engine. Boxed the the works to keep the heat down in the interior. From the outside, it was just another ratty Vdub with painted out side windows. I don't think we paid more than $40 for it as the engine had been cooked.

Have to admit, it really did not handle very well. But then again, ask me if we cared...

Last night I had a dream that I bought back Ron Burgundy. Within hours of him being home, I had the Mexican blankets back in, fly rods hung, and gear loaded up. It felt good to get back behind the wheel and we were easin' on down the road to destinations unknown.

He made it almost 2 hours down that road (which...at Ron's pace was probably a solid 15.5 miles) before breaking down. Turn the key. Nuthin'.

I looked over at my wife and said, "Are you getting cell phone reception?" Luckily she was.

"Hello....Troy? Hey what are ya doin' buddy?"

A TDI swapped Syncro Vanagon would be a sweet expedition rig. There is a guy whose kid is in my son's class at DayCare that has a VR6 Eurovan camper thats pretty cool. The VR6 is my favorite VW engine (actually one of my favorite engines period) and it would be sweet as hell to have that exhaust note coming out of a camper.

I'd rather have the TDI. I've seen a VR6 swap and it negated the bed because the motor sat up so high. My brother has a Eurovan and we've thought of doing an R32 exhaust on it.

I agree on a Vanagon motor swap, I'd do the TDI or a 1.8T (with more desire for the oil burner). But a Eruovan VR6 would be cool with a super charger and 4motion conversion. :D

I'd really like to do a TDI swap on my syncro......unfortunately the TDI swap is also the hardest and most expensive.......lots of things that need to be dressed.

A subaru SVX 3.3L would net you more HP and TQ, but not fuel economy.....but it would be something like 1/10 the cost.

You cannot post a picture like that without more details.

Also...really happy to see this thread back on top. As it should be.

That SVX will be the shit. I would love to find a clean 90 Westy and drop the motor from my Subie in it.

$$$$$

Find a cheap westy and make it clean. Thats what I did/am doing with my syncro. Otherwise I would never be able to justify the cost of the syncro westy build.

Plus I think I will end up spending just as much on a subaru diesel engine in it that I would on just buying a stock westy.
