Got my AR almost built...

My buddy actually has that set up on his deer rifle, which in itself is not a special piece of equipment. We hunt in some very hilly brushy stuff where long range is not a concern so it works well for that.

Magnifier + carbine = facepalm :)

I've seen them shoot under an inch at 100 yds. That's good enough for a magnifier in my book. Best of both worlds.

In fact, the guy who showed me about these has one on a Robertson Arms XCR he uses in a three gun comp. They shoot both close range and longer range stuff and it works very well for what he's doing.

An Eotech with one of these flip to the side magnifiers would be sweet...if you got the money.

We use and EoTech, with an Aimpoint 3x optical QRP sight at work. Our optics are setup just like this. We normally shoot 100m after a rundown, but if/when we sight them in after a cleaning/etc, it's normal to have 1" groups at 100m.
The quick release makes it quick and easy to loose the sight for CQB stuff, and to be honest the sight is just as handy for looking at things at a distance/low light/shadows, as it is for actually shooting. By that I mean, "who/what is that (quick peak thru sight)... ahh nothing to worry about"

You read too much internets my friend. There is nothing wrong with a magnifier on a carbine... I used a 4x ACOG on a 14.5" barreled M4 to successfully engage targets out to 500m without issue. :dunno:

With 55gr and 1:9 twist rate? 500m is fine when uncle sugar gives you one twist rate and heavy 5.56mm to work with. ;) I was referring to civilian apples, not .mil oranges. :)

Must have been one hell of a op-rod spring to shove that round into the chamber of an M14! ;)

Doesn't an adjustable gas plug bump you out of class in the NRA and disqualify you from CMP matches?

Same load in different cartridges obviously.

No idea if the shuster plug DQ's us from matches. Not really interested in shooting matches.

Just giving you a bit of ribbing, but I have seen a number of M1's who have been re-barreled in .308 and 7.62x51. Your mention of match ammo for an M1 typically puts you into the match shooting group, sorry for the assumption.

175gn SMK over 43.1gn of RL15, in LC '08+ brass, Fed 210M, 2.830 COAL for the M14 ;)

I never saw the 55gn M193 (A071) ball after I left the guard and no longer issued an M16a1. After that it was only the 62gn M855 (A059) in the M4, which is 1:7.

Honestly, I preferred the 168gn M118 (A136), and later the 175gn M118LR (AA11). ;)

I just loaded 200 rnds for an upcoming camping, shooting and wheeling trip.

I'm tired now.

Doesn't it make sense to make them in quantities of 30? :sad1:
When they're homeloads, I guess you're not blasting through them as quickly but rather taking 5 shot groupings.

Added an EOTech 512

So did he hit the camera?

Well, got an EOTEch 512 to put atop my carbine flattop upper, but before it was mounted, i decided to run it on top of my beretta xtreme2 for turkey hunting season!

I have a cool pic to post, will put it up later, but I was able to "bloody" the 512 on a turkey this past week on the 500 acre spot in Miller county missouri.

the design and purpose are apparent.

I was in a tight spot and in a funky prone position at the base of a large tree and behind some thick brush. The bird came from a direction I was not ready for, and was glad for the holographic sight. I had one of the most contorted firing postures I've ever shot from, but the crosshairs were where they needed to be. dead bird. dropped like a dirty shirt.

I have the sight, now proudly having earned credit on a kill, on top of the carbine upper, needing to be sighted in.

pics later.

awesome sight.

I couldn't imagine any other optic on a firearm configured for tactical, or close-quarter action.

so, it looks like you have that as far forward as possible.

are you comfortable with that amount of eye relief?

and if you removed the 512, the rear fixed sight becomes immediatly usable as a backup?
