Short quick story, found an 87 Jeep cherokee. Came with 122k auto 4.0, dana 44 rear, dana 30 front. stock everything. Had a starting issue, but other wise was in GREAT shape for its age. Bought it for $1000.

Found a jeep without working tcase or so the owner though. Turns out he just blew up his Dual Cardan driveshaft. Also a 4.0 engine, aw4, 6" rough co untry lift. Cost $500. took all the parts I needed and sold the rest for $700.

Had some 33s laying around, also a d30 with 4.88s, swapped the rear 44 with 4.88s, put the 6" lift on, skids, slidders. All in all not bad for $800.

Ill post pics in a bit.

Ill buy it right now for $801!! LOL

Nice score on all the parts. Looks pretty good to me. Especially for what you have in it.

Thanks man. It runs better then it looks. The old couple I bought it from must have used it for the past 30 yrs to go to and from the grocery store. The undercarriage is still shinny. I haven't found dirt anywhere on it, and the Limited slip clutch pack in the rear looks like it was just put in.

Looks like a wholesale or auction price.

It's becoming more difficult to find low mileage older vehicles.

Nada Guides

Low retail $3,038
Ave. retail $6,345
High retail $10,215

Unless there is a maintenance record. What I usually do with an older used vehicle is change all the fluids, check for any leaky seals and front and rear brake lines. Your XJ appears to have little rust, as if it were garaged most of the time.

I assume ur laughing at the resale values. I found those funny as well.

My experience with Cherokee's .... used car dealers more often than not are looking for bluebook values for a stock Cherokee. Trade-in values may be a different story.

Maybe I shouldn't tell you how much the insurance company just gave me for my 86 2 door when they totalled it...

I would like to know.

Got alot done in the past few days. Got the skids built and on (had to build one, then bought 2 and modified one of the 2 to fit , built the sway bar links, Got the lock right installed in the front. For the skids I just drilled threw the long arm cross member and taped the cross member to except 3/8s bolts. Im waiting on a track bar since the one I have is garbage and my jeep wonders all over the road with it. I probably broke 10 drill bits making the skids. I bought the 9nth degree oil pan skid, then the skid row tcase skid that I had to shorten the neck on, then use some 1/4" strap as a spacer, then I cut out a piece of 1/4" steel sheet to go from the skid row/rough country cross member, to the oil pan skid. All were drilled and tapped to except 3/8 bolts. Then I cut my sway bar link to length and sleeved it. Then installed my rock ring guards. Random pics Im sure are hard to see.

Said tranny pan skid I made. Lol cut and bent with a torch and a hammer. It was a mother trying to get it above the exhaust pipe and underneath of the oil pan. Nothing pretty by any means of the imagination but, I promise u none of these will go anywhere and paint makes anything look better

Got the fenders trimmed front just trimmed the outside of the flare, rear did the cut and fold all the way to the bumper. Replaced the rear driverside broken window. Took off the front sway bar because it just wasn't doing anything. The rear leafs keep the front suspension from unloading. Gave it a paintjob to get rid of the old shopping cart guards. Then put the 35s on. I need a SMALL amount of things done before its DONE.

Ive got $800 invested into this build so far with all the things Ive sold. Ive still got a running motor, a useable tcase, an sye'd tcase, some tires, a body, suspension, and 2 pairs of axles to sell. I may end up making a profit on this build.
