the chain in my 231 which was out of a 91 was skipping so i got a good deal on a case out of a 96 xj

the case went in fine, i got everything hooked back up except the speedo sensor which isnt a big deal since its a trail rig the front shaft seemed to fit ok but the rear shaft was now about 2" too short, i measured everything and it appears that the cases are the same length, the splines line up but bottom out before i can get the rear u joint in

if anybody can help id be very thankful

im gonna go check right now and see if anything moved backwards

Maybe swap the gears/chain over from the 96 tcase into your 91 case? If they're compatible (I don't know if they are) that would be my way of fixing this.

The 96 case has a longer output shaft.

crap, o well i guess i gotta get the shaft shortened

it seemed like the shaft was bottoming out on the seal at the end of the output if it was the other way around i think id be ok cutting some off the output shaft
