Basically bypasses the TCM... So shift points should be cleaner is my guess? Or would you still need the vapvebody kit from transgo?

This seems easier- Ive read the horror stories of dropping the valvebody multiple times... Just wondering if the manual shifter would get the same desired effects
Trans will shift exactly the same, it just shifts when you tell it to.

In other words, if it shifted "softer" before, it still will even if you can technically shift "faster".

The redesigns kit will not make it shift any faster. Only the trans go kit will do that.

Re: Trans-go kit into aw4 - any thoughts coments.

I believe you guys... Just trying to figure out why then they have 2 products... If, as has been said, it is simply a shifter... Why have the rail shifter as well? If its the same thing as using the radesign shifter (which in my opinion is cool for the quick D to R and back)?

I mean... We can use the shifter to manually shift now... So i thought the rail shifter was to bypass the tcm making those shifts more instant, depending on throttle, as akin to a manual.

Cant see the importance of both designs is my hang up.. I get what the transgo kit does and at that price point find it well worth the effort to install

Just to add to my original thoughts on the subject...
https://youtu.be/ERYxiG9Isbs

Basically says what Ive been wondering. I forgot I saw this guy installed both RADesign products and raved about how it shifts after. Good explination if you care to sit through it

The question would be what are you trying to accomplish? I sure don't understand your need to be able to shift fast between R and D?

Re: Trans-go kit into aw4 - any thoughts coments.

Elliminate lazy shifts... I dig the actual shifter... D to R is an off road perk, granted one I wont benefit from as often as someone who races for a living. I can see the benefit in loose traction situations though.

The rail 2 manual shifter ellimination of the tired shift points and tcm controlling the fluid pressure etc sounds about the same as what yall want from the transgo kit. Thats all i was seeking.

The youtube video answered my questions though, thanks!

Re: Trans-go kit into aw4 - any thoughts coments.

Neither the OEM TCU or the Rad units control fluid pressure. Only the TV cable and the internal metering plate does that.

Re: Trans-go kit into aw4 - any thoughts coments.

It does, but that doesn't control line pressure.

Our transmissions are a lot more mechanically controlled than you appear to believe

Re: Trans-go kit into aw4 - any thoughts coments.

Yes it does, but only to calculate the load in conjunction with the output speed sensor to control the "timing" of the shift points.

Apparently!

The youtube vid must have some incorrect verbage in it.. Guy is a master mechanic I believe he said at one point in another vid- so I took it at face value.

Re: Trans-go kit into aw4 - any thoughts coments.

Ok... Going forward in deep snow... Spinning and begin to stop. Bump it to R at lower rpm back up a touch bump it to D and continue on (hopefully)

Deep puddles might see a greater use.. But incline on rocks also a benefit.

Its not an end all save all manuever, never said it was.. But it does have practical uses off road
